Howdy, I believe this is MD but certain aspects have me confused and need confirmation from everyone. I see notches on some of the lettering and the first 2 on date appears to be doubled but I don't know. Thanks for the help.
There won’t be notches in this kind of die doubling because it’s squeezed only once by the hub. The attributes you’re looking for on these modern coins more closely resemble strike doubling except at the hubbing and not at the striking stage. A few other nuances complete the picture. An understanding of the single-squeeze process goes a long way in helping to id these attributes.
Sure. Look up Wexler's site, I think it's the "Wexler Flies" (either that, or "Files," lol). That'll start you off right. It's complicated, in spots, but all you need is a piece of it, and you'll understand better than probably many around here what you're looking for. And that's always a good thing, lol. Appears to be from a worn die, just from looking at the photos you have provided. With doubling appearing on both sides of the devices, it isn't a Doubled Die. NAV or worthless doubling, in my opinion.
