Found this crh today. Thought maybe it was gunk or something, but acetone won't touch it. Maybe plating issue or pmd?
NO, please don't promote using finger nail polish remover as it has additives that can leave residue and damage a coin. I realize you may have thought it was a trashed cent, so why not, but giving out information that newbies might read, could be taken to heart. Always use 100% acetone, easily purchased at most hardware stores. Just my two cents.
How long did you let is soak? Longer soaks may produce better results, plus using a soft item like a toothpick to help remove/loosen the object may help. It would just be a learning experience as the coin itself is still only worth 1¢.
Step back and think about a new collector reading this post. Do you think they may just come away with thinking it is okay to use finger nail polish for coin? I do, hence my comments.
Yes PMD. Think twice before cleaning any coin with the exception of ancients, even then, use caution. Thanks for sharing.
I know that. But I'm troubleshooting this guy. Why tell him to run out and get 100% acetone for something like this? That was my thinking. Nail polish remover is a much more common household item, and that's why I said it. But you're right. But none of the newbies listen to me, anyway, so...
