I Started a new lot of uncleaned

I started a new lot of uncleaned. Here is the first one semi-finished. I find it to be:
Philip I, AE28 sestertius of Viminacium, Moesia. Struck AD 245-246. Year 7. 17.79 g.
IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right.
P M S COL VIM around, Moesia standing front, arms outstretched over a bull and a lion.
Date AN VII below.
AMNG 103; Martin 2'14'1 and 2'14'4; Moushmov 36; Varbanov 136.

Very good result. I would stop - but take note I am a disaster in this aspect - cleaning coins. But on this one I think you might be close to maximum results - not sure if the legends can still be improved...

 

Thanks. The legends are very well defined on the coin. However, I am having a difficult time getting the light just right to bring out all details. I feel that it is finished. I will keep trying to get the light just right.

 

Does anyone think Ren Wax would improve the detail?

 

Yes. Ren wax always helped my “dry” coins catch the light a bit and might approve the eye appeal. When that wax gets although, sometimes it can leave a dull film in the flip. But it won’t hurt anything. I would try it if I had some.

Sometime you might want to try linseed oil instead of Ren Wax

 

OK, I'll do that. I always have plenty on hand. I use it for keeping gun stocks in good condition.

There are many posts on here about cleaning Ancients. I referred to them a lot. But I will try to summarize when I get a few minutes.

 

I don't think it is possible for me to adequately describe how best to clean ancients. The best thing to do is search cleaning ancients in the forums here. Read what they say is good practice. Then try some of the techniques.
