Heard a different sound when receiving my change this AM. And a shiny ‘penny’.

Ouch!! This was an abused cent. Aside from the damage, this is a normal business strike. Just so you know, there are many collectible Variety cents for the year, mostly from the Philly mint. Denver tended to have better controls as it seems. There are a couple sites you may want to investigate (if you haven't already). Coppercoins, Variety Vista, and Lincoln Cent Resource. These will get you started, but there are many more and for other denominations. Lots to find in your spare change if you know what to look for. Feel free to ask the members questions: they are rich on resources (pun somewhat intended). Welcome to CT!
