I also heard that one overseas dealer's coins only arrived mid-afternoon. Some dealers got a bad test result in their home airport. Another benefit for me was talking about the coins at a slower pace with some dealers who are quite expert. My " II quartuncia " recommendation is to attend IF you are in your comfort zone so as to validate the retail dealers, because safety practices are very sound.

I was there for the whole day and while I thought the auctions were on the whole absolutely brutal the bourse was actually very good. I found a good number of nice coins one of which unfortunately was being held for some one to "think about it" This actually took most of the day and thus kept a good chunk of my war fund in limbo. but he decided he didn't want the coin I wanted and yess Come to me..... I will be there tomorrow and if anyone wants one they can have a CT button. My picture (see previous post) is what I look like and will be wearing. Except I will have a black mask,

I am planning to be there probably around 11, if I survive the drive from Boston.

I think my most valuable input is this: bring your own water. No water dispensers on the floors nor a shop in the hotel. Several delis nearby. NYC tap water in reusable bottles is always best, IMHO.

I just managed to trip and fall on some stairs going down tonight to collect today's mail -- I was always a klutz, but not being able to see very well doesn't help! However, my plan is still to try to be there between about 12 and 1 pm tomorrow, after a stop at my bank to withdraw a reasonable amount of cash. Not enough to tempt me overmuch. Normally I'd take the subway down from where I live in Washington Heights and across to the East Side, but under the circumstances I think I can splurge on a taxi.

    Yikes!
I hope you're all right. I hope your eye is all right.
Yes, I think a taxi is worth it.
The NYINC show sounds fantastic. Unfortunately, I don't have the time, to travel there. I don't live anywhere near there. Maybe some day.
I went to a local coin show, recently. There were a few ancients, but nothing that I wanted to buy. I bought some nice US coins, though. Some proof Lincoln cents to fill in my Lincoln date collection folders, a nice Barber half dollar, and a nice silver trisme.

P.S. : @DonnaML Watch out for hidden steps, on the way to the coin show, and at the coin show. Sometimes, people don't see steps, especially if there are only 1 or 2 steps. Or, people don't see all of the steps, especially the last step. Especially if they don't have perfect vision.

Are the following dealers actually in attendance? I know they are
on the dealer list, but are they there?
Fritz Kuenker, Schulman BV, H.D. Rauch, Nomos and AMS Sonntag.
Just wondering about the COVID19 restrictions.

P.P.S. : @DonnaML Especially, watch out for steps, which are leading down, from where you are. Steps leading down, are the most difficult to see, especially if there are only a few steps. Often, you don't see the "cliff", because the floor on the far side of the steps, is the same color, as the floor on the near side of the steps, and the 2 floors seem to seamlessly blend together. My Mom fell down some steps once, because she didn't even see them. I guess that's why, I'm obsessing about steps, at the moment.

Unfortunately work obligations prevented me from attending Thursday or today (Friday), which frustrates me to no end. I am toying with the idea of going on Saturday, though previous experiences at coin shows suggest by Saturday the show is a ghost town. It is a long trip for me so I would appreciate any field reports from the show on Friday which might help me make up my mind.

Thank you, @sand; I appreciate your concern. But I'm not hurt (it was a short set of steps; I fell forward and broke my fall with my hands and bounced right back up!), and I promise I'll be more careful today. I may technically have become a senior citizen, but I don't quite think of myself as an old lady yet!

I'll be leaving shortly to stop at the bank and get a taxi or Lyft down to the Barclay. Here's my tentative list of dealers I'd like to visit -- both retail dealers and also auction houses just to see what, if anything, they have for sale.

    Empire Ballroom:

Keith Candiotti, Educational Coin Co. (maybe) , Harlan J. Berk, CGB France, Palmyra, Herakles, AH Baldwin, Agora, Spink USA (maybe). Plus Kuenker, Gorny & Mosch, HD Rauch, Aureo y Calico.

    Grand Ballroom:

Martina Dieterle, Kreindler, Allen Berman, Pars, Vilmar, Stephen Album (maybe), Dmitry Markov (maybe). Plus Stack's, Nomos, Jesus Vico, Soler y Llach. Plus, to stare nostalgically at British and world coins if I have time, Sovereign Rarities and Karl Stephens.

    Gallery:

Zuzim, Time Machine, CNG. Plus Abafil to look at trays. Plus ANS just to see what they have.

My eye will probably wear out long before I get through all of the above. But it's a plan.

    Sounds great.

Please be careful with your cash if you are walking around with lots of money! But I'm assuming they probably take credit/debit cards, as well.

We are more or less neighbors.

I play the age card if it will get me a seat on the subway.

Having fallen down my share of steps now, I have learned I need to hang on to the handrail right down to the last step, none of this "It's only a few more steps, I can let go now" stuff. Since cataract surgery my depth perception is worse.

Tuesday met for coffee with a friend who's in from Belgium for this event.

My experience at major shows is that no one will take credit cards or debit cards. Maybe if they know you really really well. They will take cash and usually checks if there's some dealer in the room who knows you. My wife and I both spent a lot of time getting cash out of an ATM at a major show where we found this out. I actually called my bank and had them raise the ATM limit for me and my wife for that day.

I'm in a taxi heading home. I got to meet @Terence Cheesman, @Romancollector , and @Shea19 . I bought a total of seven coins from four dealers: Zuzim, Keith Candiotti, Herakles Numismatics, and Pars Coins. I paid two with cash and two by check. (I had previously bought coins from all but Pars) No time to visit any other dealers, and quite a few closed very early anyway. Some because they're Orthodox, and some, like HJB, because they had plans for the evening.

I would not say there was a large crowd by the time I arrived at about 2:30. Supposedly it was more crowded this morning.

Details later on my purchases. Four silver Roman Imperials, and three Roman Alexandrian billon tetradrachms. No Roman Republicans caught my eye. At least none I could afford!

I am super happy that you had a successful trip to the show, Donna. That's awesome and hope to hear more about your experience in the future. And of course we'll need to see your coins.

Thanks to all of you who went to the NYINC for keeping the rest of us up to date. I regret not being able/willing to make it this year. I did watch Triton on-line. Did anyone get any bargains in that sale? Hammer prices were high as expected, but bargains are often bargains for other reasons than price.

I went to the NYINC yesterday. Yes every year I spend my "stupidity tax" to get in early. The initial stampede was something to get used to as after almost two years of isolation it was odd to be so close to other humans. I more or less wandered the rooms in something approaching a panic but I still managed to purchase some good coins. Today was different I actually had a pretty good idea of what I liked and where I would find it. The best part about staying at this hotel was that when I saw a coin that interested me, I could go upstairs and do some research. I did cruise the floor both on my own and with @Romancollector with whom I had a good long visit discussing coins as we sat at dealer tables. I also met @DonnaML and we had a brief but interesting conversation. Today I actually bought a number of coins including one which i will use for the Secret Santa next December. Yes now a days there is no guarantee that there will be a venue later in the year. I am here for the duration so I will be hanging around until till the bitter end. I will post some of my newbies when I get them ho me and get them photographed. However here is one. 6036082.jpg
I found this coin when I was walking the floor with @Romancollector I decided i really liked it. It is ex Niggler Collection as well as being a Woytek plate. One thing I think I should mention is that I actually purchased as many coins as the result of this event (auctions as well as bourse floor) than I did for the entirety of last year. Overall had a great time and Yess in all honesty wish all of you were here.

As much fun as I had, I don't plan to go back tomorrow or Sunday. What with the Vespasian aureus, and the four coins I won at the most recent Roma Numismatics auction, and the Hadrian Africa travel denarius I bought from @PeteB, and the Trajan Danvvivs denarius I bought from Silbury Coins in the UK, and the seven additional coins I bought today, that adds up to 14 coins I've purchased so far this year, and it happens to be the 14th of January! At that rate, I'll be bankrupt by March. So I think I need to take a little break. Returning would be way too tempting.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to take my own photos of the coins I bought today. None of them was up on any of the dealers' websites -- I've been told that it's common practice to hold back coins from one's website to bring to shows -- so I have no dealers' photos.

But in the meantime, let's pretend it's 1975 again and photos are rare in coin lists. So here are some brief descriptions that I've just cobbled together for the seven coins I bought. As you can tell, there's no particular rhyme or reason to what I bought. My purchases simply represent the one or two coins at each of the four dealers I visited that most appealed to me, within the general field of Roman coins:

    1. Trajan denarius, Cos V, laureate head right / Dacian seated left on pile of arms in attitude of mourning, DAC CAP in exergue. RIC 98, RSC II Trajan 120(a). Black patina. (I chose this one over another one of the same type the dealer had with a much more silvery patina, because this one actually retains noticeably more detail, despite the price being slightly lower. I may regret my choice when I try to photograph it!)

    2. Trajan denarius, Cos VI, laureate & draped bust right / Mars, naked but for cloak behind, advancing right, holding transverse spear and trophy over shoulder. RSC II Trajan 103, RIC 299, BMCRE 516.

    3. Geta Caesar denarius, Young Geta's bare-headed bust draped right / Geta in military dress stdg left holding baton and reversed spear or long sceptre; trophy behind, PRINC IVVENTVTIS. RIC 18, RSC III Geta 157b. Old coin ticket with 1967 date.

    4. Valentinian II, AR Siliqua, Siscia Mint, AD 375-378. DN VALENTINIANVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / VOT-XV-MVLT-XX within wreath with star in the badge at the top. Mintmark SISCPS. RIC IX Siscia 19c; RSC 74Ab; Sear RCV 20252.

    5. Sabina, Roman Alexandria, billon tetradrachm, L IE = year 15 (129/30), Bust of Sabina right (hair on top of head), ϹΑΒΙΝΑ ϹƐΒΑϹΤΗ / Sabina seated, left, holding ears of corn and sceptre, ϹΑΒƐΙΝΑ ϹƐΒΑϹΤΗ around; L ΙΕ at top to left of Sabina's head on reverse. RPC III 5773, Emmett 1334.15, Dattari 2061. [I bought this specifically because Sabina's hair is swept up on top of her head, and I far prefer that to her usual drab pigtail or ponytail. So I had been looking for a nice example with her hair this way for a while. Also, I believe that this is one of the only two types issued for Sabina in Alexandria as tetradrachms [edited to clarify: one of only two with Sabina on the obverse]; the other is Emmett 1335.)

    6. Hadrian, Roman Alexandria, billon tetradrachm, L IΔ = year 14 (AD 129/30), Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from rear, ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ - ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ ϹƐΒ / Radiate and draped bust of Helios, right, L-IΔ in fields. RPC III 5737, Emmett 852.14, Milne 1280. Ex. Pegasus/Nick Economopoulos.

    7. Antoninus Pius, Roman Alexandria, billon tetradrachm, Year B = Year 2 (AD 138/139). Bare head right, ΑVΤ Κ Τ ΑΙΛ ΑΔΡ ΑΝΤⲰΝΙΝΟϹ ƐVϹƐΒ / Canopus of Osiris, right, ƐΤΟ-VϹ Β. Emmett 1373.2, Milne 1587, RPC IV.4 13408-13409 (temp.)

There are, of course, photos of the various types easily available online, for example at Wildwinds and, for the Roman Alexandrian tets, at RPC Online.
