Picked up this 1786 New Jersey at FUN for the US Type Set. It's the Maris 24-P, R-2 with a nice light chocolate coloration and no significant marks or detractions for a VF-30 coin. I'd been looking for a nice NJ for about a year now and this one fit the bill.
I bought it from a local dealer in pre-Federal and Colonial issues from whom I had purchased the Siboni book and a piece of Continental Currency a couple of years ago. For this purchase he included a nicely done enclosure containing photos of the coin, its die marriage description and provenance. Like stated in the title, a touch of class from a classy guy.

That’s a very nice looking early copper. Perfect for a type set and definitely worth the years search.

What else did you expect, it’s got my profile on it. :)

I wasn’t sure that was you. The coin has the profile looking to the right and I can’t see the white spot on your head. I was thing it might be a relative of yours. :)

A very pleasant coin for the era.

The "Horse's Head" reminds me of two things. The first, it reminds me of the Chess piece named "The Knight". It also reminds me of the emblem for Wire Paladin has on his business card, his hat, his gun holster, and the handle of his gun. The show, "Have Gun Will Travel". Almost every episode had him with a job that he would earn $1,000. I don't know what that equates to in 2022 money, but Paladin very seldom left without his money which was mostly paper currency. Any idea what a 1870-1975 would be in today's money?

Funny but why show your bad side?

Because it's still good, and better than most. At least that's what the fillies around the stables tell me. :)
