Yes, even Canada had a colonial period. :) I just recently pick up this Canadian Token. Not a big collector of foreign material but every once in awhile I find something that I’m drawn you and last month, this was it.

It’s undated and the obverse has a sailing ship, almost in full sail, that appears to be British, if I make out that flag correctly. The reverse reads “SHIPS COLONIES & COMMERCE”. A very nice looking Canadian Colonial Commerce Token.

Look for the Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins Tokens and Paper money. The one I use for these tokens is v. old (1965). It cost a buck. I'll bet these are all over the place at less than $10.

If I am not mistaken, there is a scarce variety of the Ships, Colonies and Commerce token that has a US flag flying from the ship.

PE-10-24 I believe. The price chart shows a VG-8 at $22.50. I only paid $1.00 for it as it struck my fancy. Sure a lot of them. Thanks for the info and the link.

A number of questions but only with a magnifying glass and the token in hand. I was sure to learn that the “SHIPS COLONIES & COMMERCE” was something Napoleon said in 1811 pertaining to the British victory over him.

Fun thread I have a few of these I picked up about 50 years ago. Never knew they were Canadian.

Also discovered that the value of this token is a half cent.
