I was looking through my pennies and found this one. It appears to me to be a D/D RPM error. Am I right or wrong? I keep trying to learn. Thank you.
Hi Richard, Could die a small Die Chip IMHO FYI RPM's fall under the Variety Category. Here is a good explanation.. https://coinauctionshelp.com/Variety_Mint_Errors.html#.Yd8FHE1On3A
Appears to be die deterioration doubling, same as on the date. Your mintmark is also not in the same position as the known RPM's which you can see here http://varietyvista.com/02b LC RPMs Vol 2/RPMs 1968D.htm
Wow. So much to this. Not sure I will ever learn it. Hard for oi r me to see any difference in the location of my D and the ones in the example. Thanks to both.
I’ve been collecting coins for over 60 years and I’m still learning. Over time some things come easy and others, you may never get it. Don’t be concerned about that, just enjoy the hobby.
Sorry, but I am not seeing any notching or in or outside movement that would indicate an RPM. I do see a slight slide on the outside that would indicated die wear but not an RPM.
