For any particular rare coin what would you estimate the change in prices from 2016 to now? I Know that this is a very broad question but I’m just asking. I’m not really interested in the price change of a Pcgs Morgan generic 65 I mean significantly priced actually rare Pcgs coins Does anybody have any thoughts?
There's a wild variation but pretty much higher especially if its a PCGS CAC. Would need more specifics to give anything more than a generic general answer
Quite the difference between this specific query as compared to your broad brush query in your original post.
It all depends on the coins condition, date and mint mark, etc. but coins are generally higher today, at least at the moment.
This should give you a pretty good idea, it shows the fluctuations of the PCGS Key Dates and Rarities index over the last 10 years. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/coin-index/key-dates-and-rarities
I don't really follow US coins, but ancients seem to have bumped up 20-30% over that time. Neither went up like sports cards though. I tried to build out a PSA graded collection of Cy Young and MVP award winner's rookie cards back in 2014-15. I sold them all this year and brought in around 4 times what I had spent back then. And I even missed the peak!
I agree that it looks like rare classic US coins have recovered almost all their losses since 2016 in a very short period of time. It might be pointed out that the scarcest and in most demand coins are probably 30% higher than in 2016. World coins, modern world coins, modern US coins, as well as US tokens and medals have been doing extremely well the last year.
Yes, unfortunately for buyers you are right. The Italian and Sicilian silver coins that I collect have gone up quite a bit for even the common stuff. I used to cherry pick good stuff all the time, now it's very hard on eBay to find great buys.
I decided to buy it just because it looked too gorgeous to resist. I was just asking the question about Value because I’ve been looking at the coin and wondering where I was going to bid In hand it’s just as pretty as it looks in the pictures although you can’t really do it justice because while on the photo on the reverse the cameo seems to be dull around the edges that actually looks fantastic and Has to be one of the better coins I have purchased that has eye appeal Thoughts?
I It’s not really hard to figure out how much it costs and where it was purchased In the Internet age. I’ve started a new habit of running coins I’m looking at through the website and seeing what people think of the grade before I purchase it. Even though I paid more by auction prices Prior than before I really feel like I underpaid for the coin. The eye appeal is mind dazzling. I had a large collection but had some accounting issues that also involved divorcing issues I was forced to sell my collection Before my strategy was to buy as many nice type lower grade uncirculated coins as I can. I’m Now I’m more interested in a smaller collection numerically but much higher grades. I really enjoy being able to run coins past the coin talk collectors and see what they think compared to what I think. As for the specific coin I paid more in my auction than coins of this grade and type have sold in the past. Personally I thought it was a good price. Here is the auction breakdown please let me know what you guys think
You definitely got a steal on that one. The history on them is pretty dated at this point sales wise especially since most of those in the list if not all dont have a CAC. You were actually fairly below even the CAC price guide which the makers freely admit they generally keep conservative prices on and things like that have been consistently surpassing many of the values on those. Honestly an eBay auction for something like that is one of the worst ways they could have sold it which is obviously good for you. I would guess thats a 5kish or a little over 5k coin if it was sold at a more appropriate venue for that type of material
