First off, let me state that I am an experienced world coin collector and I have several local sources of coins for my collection. But lately my 5-year-old son has been taking an interest in coins. Every day he asks me if he can have a new coin, and I have a box of culls that I've been giving him coins from, but there's only so many there and I'd like to have more variety. I'd like to order a pound or a few world coins on eBay probably so I have more to give him. It would be nice if it would have enough good coins in it to make it worthwhile for me and also let me have plenty for him. Anyone have any good experiences buying in bulk online that's not just Canadian and Mexican coins, damaged or super modern? Someday I'd like to take him to a coin shop but right now is not the time for it.
I can send him a couple of my favorite world coin designs I have extras of if you'd like, free of charge. (early 1900s, late 1800s) PM address if interested.
Thanks, but I'm not really looking for donations. I'd just like to buy a bunch and then I can give them to him one at a time.
The online dealer Joel Anderson sells mixed world coins by the pound. I haven't bought the bulk coins from him so can't comment directly on their quality, but I have bought other coins from him and always been satisfied, so he might be worth checking out.
I saw this on eBay. 9 hours left on the bid. I see tons of old ones in there, and for 10-20 a lb, (depending on where the price goes) that's not bad. If you bid on it, good luck. There are multiple lots by the same seller much like this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224771418387?hash=item34556ba913:g:l8EAAOSw-2Jh0eBM
Always wanted to try this but never have. Right now with omicron though I'm not looking to do in person shopping.
Bulk world coins on eBay usually have a lot of duplicates and tend to be more modern coins. Just FYI.
Yeah I know. I bought some a long time ago when I was first getting started. Hence the reason for me asking, hoping to find a hidden gem.
I have 2 granddaughters, both at my feet. Proudly, they want to know what PaPa is doing with all that money. I keep their interest by sharing with them, as you do with your son. It has been going on for a few years now and both are into coin collecting. Hopefully we can keep it all going and keep the collecting venue open to new blood. Sometimes I don't like them, but I love them all of the time! Welcome to the next generation! Good luck.
Yeah, I always hoped he'd take an interest in it, but usually whenever he did, he'd want to help me at the worst times when there really wasn't anything for him to do. This is nice because he asks for a coin and then he has them all together and he uses them in his games. (He has animals who they belong to and other animals who try to steal them). I try to tell him the country they are from and the denomination and a little about them if I can. He tends to get into things for a little while and then lose interest but I hope this sticks.
