If someone brings in a bag of halves, what are the odds that they went through them and this is a dump? There really is no point to halves as there is no way to spend them, nobody wants them and machines don't take them. Why are we wasting time and money minting these dinosaurs? (And pretty much the same with dollar coins.) Oh at first machines and tolls were retrofitted to take dollar coins, but they are almost useless. Yes they last longer than dollar bills but no one wants to carry around a pocketful of these things. And again most places don't want them and machines don't take them.
I watch videos on Youtube of Roll Hunters obtaining bags from their credit unions and other branches where they find silver. In some instances, quite a bit of silver. But I agree, I don't want to carry them around either.
Got a BU 2012-D Kennedy Half in change yesterday at our local Quick-Check. Watched the cashier crack open a brand new roll. Asked him if I could buy the balance of the roll and he said they can't get any rolled coin from the local banks. This was all they could get and he couldn't sell to me.
Yep, my bank can get me all the halves I want, they just can't get anything else, even for themselves.
Thats funny,my situation is the complete opposite!!!!they never have halves and refuse to order any but have everything else.
Okay, okay it was $34.50 in halves and there were two silvers - 1963 and 1965. Both in very good condition. Not earthshaking, but I have been through many boxes of halves without a single silver, so this was excellent.
I must have been smiling right today, or it was that they could see my smiling mug, I was able to acquire quite a few rolls of cents, quarters and nickels today.
I bought 4 rolls of half's yesterday and got 6 silvers. All 40% but great find. One roll had 3 in it.
