Are there many penny collectors out there?

I am curious how many coin collectors collect pennies. If so whatdo you focus on collecting. All types, just copper, just Wheaties, Indian? What is your reason or goal? Do you keep all grades or those say above good. I am finding and have a large selection of 1910-2021. However due to space I only keep them up to 1982. I hate to say it most of my old ones are G-F grade. I keep better grades as I find them. I keep all coins that will grade MS excepty recent years because those are abundant. Just curious what others do? Thanks and Great 2022 hunting.

I try to keep all cents that are AU58 or better, As for the new ones (shield cents) They have to be Mint state, strong strike, and nearly spotless. I don't really roll hunt anymore, Pocket change only.

When you've collected long enough you know what the keepers are. When you haven't, you just learn it as we did, as you go along...

I collect anything 1958 and earlier (Wheat, IH, etc.). I also continue to add the new releases each year to continue my Dansco's going forward. I will collect Canadian and British pennies if they are copper, but that is only to give me something to do. I don't look for varieties or errors (1955 DD, 1969-S DD, 1972 DD, 1970-S Small Date) being the exception for LMCs. I have no interest in the Shield Cents other than to add them to the Dansco.

I collect US cents, British pennies, and any other large cent.

My cent collecting ends at 1958. I save all LWC's.

I'm guessing my grandson, if/when he gets going on his own, will collect what he can find in pocket change, just like many of the rest of us. I'll start bringing him an unsearched roll or two each time I visit.

I know what my keepers are. I was asking about others, but thanks anyway.

I keep '82's on back, but don't go out of my way looking for them. I've considered getting boxes, but with 40 years of more recent 'non-keepers' (for me anyway) in front of them, it just seems like panning for gold in the sandbox.

With the exception of the 1909 VDBS I am done collecting Lincolns and finished through 2020. No desire to go further at my age. I am working on finishing up Australia large penny set and Great Britain large penny set from 1860 up.

I keep all cents pre-1940, unless severely damaged, firm at G4; less than that is not appealing to me. Then I keep wheats VF20 or better. Memorials have to be AU50 or better up to 1975. AU55 or better to 1982.

Every cent that crosses my path is subject to a cursory check for key dates, prominent doubling, disqualifying deterioration as well as strike criteria.

1982 to 2008 I check for varieties, 2009 for doubling. 2010-2020 must look brand new with minor deterioration like forehead and back shield die cracks but firm at MS, no spotting or staining.

I stopped saving all denominations in 2020. I told my family if they wanted 2021 dates or beyond, they had to take up the sword and cut their own swath into the future. @Richard Kennedy

The Lincoln cent is one of my favorite coins. Started collecting them in 1969.
Been upgrading as much as I can in the past 10 years or so with what comes my way. Second set is pre 75 only. I keep what I deem valued and circulate/sell the rest.

I collect cents, from 1793 to 1814 by die variety. (I also have a full set of British large pennies 1860 to 1967) I also collect 18th century English half penny provincial tokens. So cents, pennys and half pennies.

I collect almost all cents from colonials starting with a 1722 rosa americana all the way on to my 2019 w's and current proof sets, 300 years of american coppers and I ain't done by a long shot :D (have also started in on canadian large cents but that's still in early days :D) Right now still working on the $20 Large cent set and will probably never finish the MS wheat set, but one at a time I keep filling the holes :D This is just the newest addition :D 4502845_Full_Rev.jpg 4502845_Full_Obv.jpg

Just photo'd this today. My own 2 pence worth. Don't really specialize in pennies but could also use the old '97 cartwheel in unc. 20220106_133733.jpg

This is a '75 Maundy set of course. Tough to find all 4 matching years out of circulation nowadays. Particularly as they're sterling.

I specialize in 1793-1814, but actually lose interest after 1803 with the last NC. I collect the low end because that's usually all I can afford. I have 1 slabbed straight grade F-12 that tops my Grade scale but most are AG Details or thereabout.

I have a few raw that might top it, but might not.

This might be the rare example of a TPG grade matching (or at least coming close to) the EAC grade. It appears the TPG may have deducted for Die State deterioration which EAC does not. So maybe.

But my recent focus has been on the rarer die states of common varieties and this is one.

Is this a penny? I'm not really sure.
