just won 2 lots from heritage auctions...ok, so 328.00, then their buyer's premium of 81.00, ok, then 19.41 for shipping???? 2 coins and almost 20 bucks for shipping, that is 100.00 more than what i started out bidding, man oh man, and people say ebay will bite you on the butt?? nope, never again will i participate in an over priced, auction that takes 35 days to end, and costs a guy 100.00 more than what he bid....wow, ok done venting...gheesh...mumble mumble mumble...oh yeh, forgot to mention, it says 14-30 days wait time to get coins, so i am paying for overnite delivery, or at least 2nd day, but 2 weeks?? come on now man
A man has to know his limitations. You're supposed to figure all the extras in your bid price, but you knew that already. Enjoy your new coins.

well...great collections, has a 5.00 shipping for 2-4 coins, this time i won 20 or so lots, but they are realistic, i had nop clue they were gonna bang me damn near 20 bucks for 1-2 weeks shipping?? great collections i get 5 days after my cheque clears..so yup, screw HA
I buy from Heritage all the time and it definitely doesn't take 14-30 days. I get most of my orders within 7-10 days. As to the Buyer's Premium you know that going in so you're supposed to factor that in when you bid. If you see a coin that's you're willing to pay $500 for you bid $400 and then after all the fees your price total is ~$500.
I know you expected the BP. That goes without saying. Or at least I hope so. The shipping is what you're complaining about. You can't possibly think they're going to ship it First Class, right? It has to go 2-3 Day Priority with insurance. Maybe that ~$20 charge is high by $5, but not much more than that. So bottom line is you're complaining and ranting about $5. I don't see the problem.
Yup! I've actually been told by Heritage that some of the fees like CC transaction fees & shipping fees are exactly what Heritage has to pay. So they're not making any profit off things like shipping fees. Whatever someone pays for shipping is how much HA itself has to pay to ship the item to the customer with insurance via Priority Mail. Really the BP is where HA makes it's profit and everything else is just reimbursing what they have to pay.
THE NOTE AT THE END OF MY INVOICE SAID 7-14 DAYS DELIVERY TIME, AND FOR WHAT THEY CHARGED FOR POSTAGE, IT SHOULF BE PRIORITY 2ND DAY OR BETTER, ME THINKS, GREAT COLLECTIONS IS ONLY 5.00
IT IS JUST AFTER MAKING 85,00 OFF ON TOP OF WHAT I BID, THEY HAVE TO RAPE ME FOR POSTAGE, 2 COINS SHIP FOR 4.00 FROM MOST VENDORS ON EBAY, I ONLY CHARGE 4,.25 FOR ONE COIN OR 100, 17. ABND CHAN=GE AND SAYYING 2 WEEKS TO GET IT IS RIDICULOUS..
SO YOU'RE SAYING YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE BUYERS PREMIUM? SHAME ON YOU. AS FOR THE SHIPPING, THEY ALSO STATE THAT CLEAR AS DAY. EBAY SHIPPERS DON'T TYPICALLY SHIP 2-3 DAY PRIORITY WITH INSURANCE. AND THE TIMING OF THE DELIVERY, HOW ABOUT WAITING UNTIL YOU RECEIVE IT BEFORE YELLING AND SCREAMING. EVER HEAR OF UNDER PROMISE OVER DELIVER? HASN'T HAPPENED YET, BUT IT'S POSSIBLE YOU COULD BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. AGAIN, YOU SEEM TO BE SCREAMING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT MAYBE $5 EXCESS SHIPPING. I CAN YELL AND SCREAM TOO. EVEN LOUDER THAN YOU.
My eyes man, please. OP, what is worst is if you win an inexpensive lot at HA, they have a minimum premium they charge. It can double the cost of a lot for cheap ones.
I'm very aware of the charges on HA auctions (Stack's too). Therefore I don't bid there. (Of course it helps that most of their items are more expensive than I care to spend.) I'm quite happy with GC.
YES, I KNEW ABOUT THE BUYER PREMIUM, BUT 27.00 FOR 2 COINS?? AND ARRIVAL TIME IS 1-2 WEEKS?? THAT IS RIDICULOUSM HANDLING SHOULD BE A WEEK, NO MORE..ESPECIALLY WHEN PAYMENT INSIMMEDIATE, GREAT COLLECTIONS ALWAYS GETS ME MY COINS WITHIN A WEEK FOR 5-7.00 AND I AM NOT SCREAMING, I AM POSTING ON EBAY AND I USE ALL CAPS, SOMETIMES I LOWER IT, BUT THEN FORGET AND MY POSTS ON EBAY ARE ALL SCREWED UP, IF ANYTHING, SIR, YOU ARE SCREAMING!! LOL REALLY HOW CAN ONE SCREAM THROUGH A TYPWRITTEN WORD?? IT IS PROPOSTEROUS
priority padded envelope is 9.00 and covers insurance, or another 1.70 if they want to add to it, the rest of it is excess, pure greed i think, i learned my lesson, blocking their ads and notices, i am done with them
I also purchase a lot of my coins through Heritage, as a slabbed ancients collector there aren't really many other choices . In preparation of the auction, I enter totals that I'm willing to pay into a spreadsheet that multiplies that column by 5/6, which accounts for the buyer's premium and tells me my bid maximum. I also try to make sure that I'm going to win multiple coins (at least 3, better if 5+) so that the shipping costs are spread across multiple coins, which makes that a bit less painful. All that being said, I really hate buyer's premiums and auction houses that use them. They could skim the same profits by charging their premiums against the bid price post auction (seller's premium), and the only difference would be that the bidders wouldn't have to do a bunch of math ahead of time. Of course, the reason that they do it this way is because some people are not good at math, don't want to bother with it, or are psychologically manipulated by entering a lower number (bid). This results in people paying more than they intended, which earns the auction house more money, and which makes the use of buyer's premiums ethically problematic in my book.
