buy and hold What about "buy and hold"? I think that is the fashionable thing to do with a coin collection -Buy and hold, die and then pass it on.
I have three favorite places for bullion and junk silver: Depending what I want and how much.... I contact, Kathleen Kolvey at Investment Rarities, or Liberty at the MoneyChanger, or APMEX. There are many less expensive places, but some of these require larger quantities. Some of my favorites can take a while to receive the stuff, but I am kept informed well in advanced. Price is not the most important aspect for me, I like the customer service and monetary counseling that I receive from the first two. When I want monetary counseling I do not use an internet service - Just my preference. I do not have a lot of money to buy coins, so I need to feel comfortable. Sometimes that service costs a bit more, and sometimes not (especially with bullion gold); but for me it is worth it. It is your money, and your life. Do what helps you sleep best at night. Saving an extra dime does not always work for me, but saving the right dime does.
First, I thank You for your courteous responce. Service is tantamount. I learned being a Trial Lawyer for more than a quater of a century. Sometime money can bring out the darker side of human emotions. Still recovering from a stroke and coma in Costa Rico, I must appologize for an occasional 'brain fart'. For the most part I thank You all and keep on earning! Eric, Esq.
Here's the best advice you could get from any source, and I won't charge you a cent - Invest in something that YOU thoroughly understand.
So sorry about the stroke. I survived a brain stem injury and post-related stroke. I still struggle with TIAs, and those darn "brain farts." It is interesting to me, that during the short time I have been a CT member, that there are a good number of coin collectors with brain trauma. I am sure it is just a COINcidence. (not sure if the spelling is on target, but hope the humor helps). :hail: I think you are lucky to have not waited any longer to begin making your acquisitions. Best of luck with your coin or bullion interests, and more importantly, best of luck with your health.
Dear fellow, the "mint" is for entertainment purposes only. In short, collecting. The things that I purchase from the mint are for my collection, not my portfolio. I enjoy what I collect without the fear and hassle of worrying whether or not something is going to appreciate in value down the road. Investing is an entirely different animal and investing in coins is at best, for most of us, a crap shoot. You'd do better purchasing Berkshire Hathaway stock.....
Please let this thread die--the poor grammar sickens me. The author of this thread should invest his retirement in a grammar book.
It ain't that old compared to some of the threads I've seen bumped. Oh that was just so lacking in class....
Cirelaw: You have attracted over 8 pages of responses thus far. No need to appologize. Your inquiries are both honest and of general interests. I tired of the stockmarket (mostly). My investment philosophy has pretty much always been simple. I invest in what I can sleep well on. Now, what I have invested in the past may give others nightmares. My portfolio tends to meet my "sleeping" needs overall. Speculation is another matter. I research the best I can, I go to the experts, and then make a decision. It sounds like you hope to dollar cost average. Your questions are actually very good to think about (personally). It never hurts to reflect and reset the navigation system. If a trees falls, it falls and I deal with it. (I live in a rural area, but don't always travel with a chain saw). You are among friends. (P.S., The grammer cop is just a little out of sorts). Be sure to keep on posting. If you know how to post pictures, then please do so when you receive your first coins.) Kathleen K. (Investment Rarities) will send you some really cool newsletters for free. I learned a lot from them, and still do. Keep learning, and posting, and the coins will follow.
I like this open thread.... Is it a problem to bring up an older thread. I find this thread very fresh, and timely. I do not intend to be offensive. This is an honorable question. Is there a timeframe for posting on open threads?
Some folks get a little bent out of shape if an old thread gets bumped. Something that was, say, posted three or four years ago and adds nothing to the general discussion and betterment of the forum. This thread does not fall into that category, and as you say, Sunflower, it is indeed "timely"...
