Good morning and happy new year!

I woke up this morning tempering that I had forgot a register find in my watch pocket of my jeans the day before.

it seems to be in decent shape for being plucked out of a store register. Probably the nicest condition coon I have found in circulation

so are these really silver clad?? Never collected proof sets and don’t know much about them other then they are obviously a special run coin from San Francisco

Thank you. I actually happen to come across many proofs in my registers. This one I’d say is by far the nicest example I have found.

I’ll be the first to admit. I’m quick on the spot to judge a coin by looking at the reeding. An old habit of mine when I was a kid silver searching so I still to this day while trying to learn about coins look at the reeding and these modern proofs mix me up.
But I’m learning and really love learning about coins.

This is one I found a few months back. It’s in rough shape but I absolutely love the eagle design. My favorite

San Francisco mints some proofs that are silver and some that are not. Look at the edge. If you don't see copper, then it's silver. There are proof sets available in both.

I hope someone's collection did not take a hit. Nice find.

Depends. There are both Clad and 90% silver. Would need to see OP's coin edge and/or weight.

Nice circulation find. Wonder if it was a coin someone released for the December coin release?

I’ll have to take a few pictures when I get home tonight. But it was definitely two tones on the edges. I’ll break out my powder scale and weigh it.

2 toned is most likely clad. Still a cool find.

So I pulled a few others from my register collection and all but on are two toned. I didn’t weigh anything but my assumption from what I’m learning is that it’s likely a cladded coin.

I did have one that was heavier by feel and visually silver toned edge. But I have still trying to figure out what it is. bottom last coin. Any guesses. I found this one years ago in a register

Top 3 edges are def clad. Bottom is possibly silver. Weight would be the 100% defining answer though.

Edit, hold up. That 2004 Washington DC....check the whole edge. It looms like a Dan Carr desgin. He made his designs in both clad and silver. I'm not near my resources atm so I can't confirm.

So the edging in the bottom one is definitely consistently silvered colored. I’ll weigh it when I get back home. But no one is really been able to tell me what it is.
The stamped word “copy” is a bit of a mystery to me at least.

Here is mine that I found last year. On one part of the edge, it has the .999 silver stamped on it. If yours doesn't have that, it will be the silver plated version.

Here is the link to my thread on it. I think it has a link to his website:

Great info on your link thanks!! Pretty neat. I wonder what it took to travel across the country to Northern California.

I double checked and mine must be the clad as it is not stamped on the rim anywhere and is a low luster and very circulated

Daniel Carr, the designer, is located in Colorado. Not sure where the place that minted them is located off the top of my head. They probably mailed them all over the country to collectors. Yours was probably "freed" from said collection and has spent a fair amount of time being used as a real quarter. Far more interesting than just sitting in a collection IMO.

Thank you for all the feedback. Super helpful.

I truly love that the majority of my collection has been dedicated to what I find in circulation. Just seems a bit more interesting IMO.
Thank you again for helping me learn about the coins.

I prefer circulated coins myself as well.
Glad I could help. That's what we are here for :)
