So, just for the heck of it, in 2018, I decided pull one of my ASE BU’s from my bullion stash and carry it around as “pocket change” to see how wear and tear may affect this design. After almost 4 years this is how it looks! I have had a lot of fun showing it off to store clerks, friends, grandkids, etc, and receiving all kinds of reactions, almost all positive ….maybe it will inspire some to start collecting coins as a hobby! Anybody else ever done something like this?

Wow, it sure took a beating. I do the same with Ikes, and it is a lot cheaper, plus I can give them away if someone is really interested. I probably wouldn't give away any silver eagles...

Cool! Plus I like the “clink” of real silver!

When we talk about "pocket carry" I think it is import to know what else is carried in that pocket; car keys, other coins, pocket knife, etc. I've carried a Morgan silver dollar for a year now and have very little wear on it, but it isn't in a pocket with other change or keys, just a soft leather coin purse.

That's the closest thing to a circulated Silver Eagle I've seen.

I admire your effort to get kids interested but I don't think I could bring myself to use an ASE for that purpose! ;):) I have had some luck with wheat cents, old nickels and junk silver!! Some kids really like that stuff too!!!

In the past, I would get a couple of boxes of half dollars. Then go through
them and keep what I want to keep. Then with the rest when I go shopping I use them and for tips. I have a lot of fun doing it. Many have no idea of what it is.

I still really want to do this with a 2014 gold Kennedy. PF70 is boring; I want a lowball. But so far, I don't have the nerve.

I’ve done that with half dollars and a lot of the times, especially amongst the younger generation; they have never seen one! One time a kid at McDonalds; tried to give me change for a dollar!
