The Maui, Hawaii Chamber of Commerce produced another winner with it s Copper-nickel Crown-sized 2010 Trade $2 coin. The 39mm (Crown Size) copper-nickel coin (Token or So-called Dollar) features the unique (endangered) 'I' iwi bird (aka Hawaiian Honeycreeper) along side a Papaya tree and its fruit. To raise money for educational projects the Chamber offers these Trade Two Dollars coins as a spendable (redeemable in many participating chamber member retail outlets across the Island of Maui) or as a collectible souvenir of Maui. Maui Chamber of Commerce Trade Dollars first appeared on the Island in 1992. The value back in 1992 was 1 Dollar and remained so through 2007. It was raised to $2 in 2008. The glory on the 2010 Trade $2 coin radiates from a rising Sun shining from the lower right side just above the date. I ordered and received mine (have a collection of all the Maui Trade Dollars from 1992) from Joel's Coins. Here's Maui's Chamber of Commerce's Trade Dollar web site: http://www.mauichamber.com/product_01.htm Thought you'd like to know.. Clinker
Thanks for providing the link to the Maui Chamber. I sat these for sale in all kinds of souvenir shops but the always wanted about $5 for the coins. Now I know how to get them for face value.
A few are depicted here: http://www.joelscoins.com/nationsnon.htm#maui Guess I would get some too if I went to Maui. Nicely designed souvenirs; a few I would try and spend locally, others would go home with me. Christian
Hi Art.... For images of the other Maui Trade Dollars and Two Dollars go to http://www.worldcoingallery.com No need to sign in. Just click Maui on the "drop down menu." Every link will produce a photo of the coin you want to see. 1992 was the first one. Clinker
Hi randygeki... I have a few older Trade Dollars from Maui as well as other Islands before the Maui Chamber of Commerce. Many School districts on the different Islands of the chain ussued lunch and milk tokens (some with a $1 value) for used in their school districts. Clinker
