My brother-in-law also collects coins and one of his friends is going to sell him an 1884 Morgan Dollar for less then $20.00. We saw the coin and it's in good condition. We were researching and are aware of the markings that it has, which is one by the neck and one by the ribbon. We know its weigh is 12.76, but we weighed it and it was only 12.45. Now the concern here is, is it ok to be off a few or is it a fake??? We've noticed when we've we weighed some of the 1/2 dollars they go over the actual weight, so he wants make sure on this 1884 Morgan Dollar before he purchases. Also how could you tell it's a conterfeit???

Any info would really be appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

This is the pictures of the coins one is from the morgan that my brother in law is thinking of purchasing and the peace dollar is one that I purchased. But he wants to know if it not a fake. Cause like he said it supossed to weight 26.73 grams and this coin weights a little less like 26.5 grams . but can coins be off by a little? By the way I had posted a question earlier about this coin but i had put the wrong weight on the posting. Is not 12.7 that was the wrong weight. I meant to say 26.73 grams.
