Nice low serial number on that first $20 note Your grandparents are my kind of peeps. I like to encourage our hobby for the grands as well as some other collectibles.
Great Britain - The old paper £20 notes issued 13th Mar 2007 will only be valid until September 2022 - the expiry date given by the Bank of England. I am keeping a few crispy notes from my last trip to UK. The balance may have to go to the bank for exchange as I've no plans to visit the UK again. 2 different Chief Cashiers - Chris Salmon and Andrew Bailey
Been eyeing this one for a while and finally decided to add it to the collection.. It’s kind of opposite of everything I look for in an obsolete, as I'm usually attracted to the more ornate designs an attractive imagery but for some reason the bold, straightforward, image-less design of this note kept me coming back and actually looks great with my other notes with it’s unique text design. I also like the fact that it says both “Confederate State” and the “The United States”.. don’t think any of my other notes have both. And lastly, I really liked that it was printed on the backs of other notes from the Exchange Bank of Holly Springs, Mississippi as that gives it a bit of historical context regarding the paper shortage during the war
Yes, that is a very interesting and historical note. Amazing with its age that it is still in pretty good order. Thanks for scanning
- Same here. I agree with you & @BasSWarwick: that's one really cool, historically unique examples of recycling! Here's P-27a, my first example from Rhodesia & the last 10/- note released by that nation:
Great Britain - The old paper £50 notes issued 13th Mar 2007 will only be valid until September 2022 - the expiry date given by the Bank of England. I have one note from my last trip to UK.
Picked up a couple of $1 Silver Certs for face. 1935A Blue seal Nothing special, but rare to find in NZ.
-Yes, that portrait is used many times over & to good effect. We see it used on The Government of Fiji & the redesigned "FIJI" series + Jersey & Malta. A smaller circular vignette is also used in Trinidad (P-26 to P-29) 1964 series (such as the $5.00). The most famous, & the one I would love to own, would have to be the P-17 SEYCHELLES 50 Rupees (aka the 'SEX' note).
Thanks for the info - greatly appreciated. Checked my Fiji collection and only have 4 notes from 2002 and 2007. Zero Jersey, Malta and Trinidad.
-You're welcome. The note I posted from Fiji is P-71b which is pretty inexpensive compared to its P-71a 'cousin.' It comes from the last "Central Monetary Authority" series (which like the last 1974 Bahamas old QEII series) is the easiest/least expensive. The 1969 "Government of Fiji" (P-58 to P-63) are much tougher & far more expensive. P-89a (1993) the last $1.00 are very inexpensive ($7 to less than $10) when I last checked & has the QEII portrait before all the modifications seen with Fijian 2000 notes. Double-letter 1996 (P-96b) are a bit more pricey than the 2002 (P-104) but worth it as they're so much less common for late Fijian currency. Jersey is much more affordable than Malta & still quite a few out there. Trinidad QEII notes can be challenging to find (very short lived issue) but they're still fairly inexpensive (compared to Jamaica/other island QEII) but they're getting dear too. Collectors are catching on that they're pretty tough in higher grades. P-89a (1993) P-96b (same size serial # 1996)
This is very useful information for me and greatly appreciated. I checked again and have 2 of the 1996-2002 P-96b $2 with serials AE884669 and AC020709 (same size). Also found 2 of the 2007-2011 P-109 (increasing digits) P-104a I have found locally at US$4 UNC. Presume that is reasonable value? I am on the look out locally for missing notes from the collection.
Henry Ferguson (1884-1960) was an Irish/British inventor who developed the Ferguson tractor, now part of Massey Ferguson and was the first person to build a flyable aircraft in Ireland.

-They're always fun (& inexpensive) pick ups. Here's mine P-29 from that country a 50 Pesos note. Happy New Year's Eve (for those who haven't celebrated yet).
