This is actually a good example of a potentially problematic topic, and problems associated with opinion-based thresholds.

I certainly agree that using coins as an avenue for glorifying Nazi history is problematic. IF THAT IS THE INTENT.

However, your statement is general enough to possibly, passively indicate that having Nazi Era German coins in your collection makes you representative of this type of problem. Some people might find this offensive.......So has your post crossed a threshold? Does it deserve reprimand?

The only way to clarify meaning, and therefore, intent, is via conversation about the nuances. So, I might give you the opportunity to clarify by posing the question:

"Do you feel that appreciation for the historicity of Nazi Era coins is equivalent to the glorification of Nazi history?"

Some would probably see this as confrontational, or maybe even a defense of Nazi-ism. But, that would in no way, shape, or form have been my intent. So, would this post have crossed a threshold? Would it deserve reprimand?

One thing is for sure, if this conversation were to continue (lets not do that, this is just an example), then it would get the hammer and the participants would be demonized. This would happen even though there was nothing said that should have caused offense and nobody took action with any ill-intent.

Ok!...I started this thread so I guess I have to say something!
I just felt there might be a chance, with the festive spirit, of an ugly pin that really serves no purpose and being stuck at the top of our Ancient Forum top page, being taken off!
I tried to do this as politely as possible and it obviously didn't work. The Mod told me why along with other posters...I must say though I did expect other members to back this request but it didn't happen, probably because they knew it was futile.
I've ignored the thread as advised, does that make me feel any better?...No!..But apparently that's how it is!
I'll take it on the chin..'Pull up my pants'...And move on to more interesting coin related threads!....
What worries me more is the thread seems to have moved into a different area and although the posters, at the moment, are keeping it civil I just feel it could explode at any moment!.....Please let this thread drop away!.....I assume I can ignore my own thread?...I'll try it....

In black on the right is a small button that reads Thread Tools. Click on it, then click ignore thread. It’s gone from your page so you don’t have to see it.

If everyone stops posting to this thread it will also drop out of sight. Just look at the number of responses today.

    What is ugly about it?

It serves a purpose - namely to remind those who obviously need reminding that they shouldn't break the rules.

I'm pretty sure no one cares about your feelings.

If we don't care about people's feelings, then why are we so pre-occupied with eliminating any language that could potentially cause offense?

Or do we just not care about certain people's feelings?

Speak for yourself. @Spaniard happens to be my friend and the friend of many others here who DO care how he feels.

You being rude and snarky helps no one. Why are you even commenting on the ancient forum?

    I don't care.

I'm interested in learning more about ancient coins (and I wanted my participation award). And I can't believe anyone can possibly get so worked up about a pinned topic. I mean, seriously?

A person's feelings are their problem. Deal with it and stop putting on public displays of hand-wringing fainting spells.

I only collect US coins so I was just looking around on CT. 5 pages long. Where do you collector's find time to collect coins? I will stick with US coinage. I am going back to CCoinTalk.

I sincerely hope this is the truth and not just more of your nonsense. Of course you would learn a lot more if you participated in threads with actual content about ancient coins and not just the contentious threads.

That’s apparent and also the primary reason you are typically so easy to ignore when you aren’t trying to bully people. I’ve seriously never seen you post a single thing to this site worth reading.

Hey look I fixed your previous post for you.:angelic:

Regarding the "Enough Already!" pinned post, I actually find it helpful--and I'm sure most people here would agree that I probably need that reminder more than most here. For what it's worth: I have taken the reminder to heart. Also: my sincerest apologies to all!

The only other thing I would like to say is that the person who was most, erm, vociferous in his criticisms of my original comments seemed to have been reading messages that I wasn't actually sending in any of my posts. I hate it when that happens, but these topics are so deeply-felt by so many people that I suppose these things happen...which is why the mods in their wisdom have instituted the rules against these sorts of topics, even when those topics are intricately bound up with the coins we collect and the resources we use to study them.

As for the "Enough Already!" post itself, honestly, it's pretty folksy and not offensive at all. It doesn't make personal attacks, and it doesn't threaten anything more dire than a time-out for anyone who needs one. Just ride it out and it will come down in due course.
