I’ve been waiting for the grades on my 2021 Morgan & Peace Dollars for a while and I was pleasantly surprised to wake up today and see an email saying my coins were done being graded and had been shipped out. Here’s how I did: Better than expected I think. One thing I found VERY interesting is that two of the three CCs and Os I bought from JM Bullion (everything else I got direct from the US Mint) and the fact that both CCs and one of the Os came back MS70 proves to me beyond a reasonable doubt that these companies do NOT cherry pick coins to be sent off and sell the rest raw like I’ve been told. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s possible to buy a coin raw from companies like JMB & APMEX and still get the 70 grade. Im kind of bummed that out of my 3x Peace Dollars only 1 of them got the MS70 but thankfully I got at least 1x MS70 of each coin so I can keep a full 70 set for myself and sell the other 70s and 69s. Anyway just wanted to share my results with you guys since I have posted a few questions about the whole process and several people asked me to share my grades when I got them.
It's not worth their time checking everything, they work on volume. What you can run into down the road is grading rejects being sold raw, but yea they arent sitting there opening everything when theyre going to submit thousands
Ah yeah I'm just saying people were telling me not to send the ones I bought from JMB in to PCGS because they believed that there was no way that big companies would send me a raw coin with the potential to grade 70. I saw this submission as a sort of test to see whether or not its possible to get a 70 when a coin is bought raw from a third party and I am glad to see that it is indeed possible and that I didn't get any grading rejects.
If it was like a year from now yea maybe. Right off the bat though its not worth their time, they just get a ton of them send in a number they have in mind and sell the rest.
My package was delivered to their office 11/15 but it wasn't entered into the system to begin the process until 11/17. I got my grades back today so 11/17 - 12/30 is how long it took from receipt and entry of my coins into the system to the time it took to see my grades. However keep in mind PCGS was closed for a few days on both Thanksgiving and Christmas so that may have extended to turnaround time a bit. I also used the "Modern Value" option which is the slowest option available.
@Gam3rBlake it appears you did quite well. From everything you've said in other threads you'll wind up with your set of 70's for free. Can't ask for much more than that. Especially when a set isn't 2, 3, or 4 coins in this case. Six in the set for free is a nice score. Congrats.
Not bad. I sent in 4 mint errors. Shows received 10/14 and I'm still waiting. Maybe cuz @Fred Weinberg: retired. Been stuck in encapsulating for last 10 days.
Fingers crossed I can manage that. Unfortunately the prices for a lot of these coins has dropped significantly and the most expensive coin (the Peace Dollar) I didn't do very well on with the grades with those since I only got 1x 70 and 2x 69s. It seems like PCGS is more comfortable handing out 70s on cheaper coins than more expensive ones. But I can't complain too much since I did pretty good with the CCs by getting all 3 of them MS70s. JMB sent me 3x of these MS70s raw out of 4 coins purchased from them which is awesome!
Good luck! I think things will speed up after New Year's Day. Unless the Monster Boxes of 2022 bullion coins slow PCGS down significantly.
PCGS seems notably faster right now. I gave NGC 2 submissions on 11/19 in Baltimore, 1 Early Bird and 1 Specialty Goldrush, with the stipulation that I'd be picking them up at the FUN Show. They "opened" the packages on 12/01 and the coins have been stuck in "Grading/Quality Control" for as long as I can remember. At this point, it's not looking good for me picking them up at the show, which means I would not only not have them to sell there, but I'd also have to fork over the cost of Express Mail for the USPS to return them from Sarasota to my office.
Mine were opened on 11/17 and they got through the process quickly until it got to Q&A where it got stuck for 3 weeks xD
Congratulations on those coins. You’ve gotta be pleased with those grades and happy that they are on their way back to you. Good job girl!!
Thanks I don’t mind the wait for the coins to come back I was just anxious to see what grades I got. Now that I know what I got if it took them 3 months to get my coins back to me I wouldn’t mind.
Thanks! I am indeed pleased with the grades. Hopefully I can trade an MS70 CC Morgan for an MS70 Peace Dollar so I can sell 1 full MS70 set and keep one for myself. ^_^
Anyone know why when I enter the certification numbers on the PCGS website my coins aren't coming up? Does it just take them some time to put them up on the website?
