I don't wish to dig up a dead horse BUT:

Does anyone have a copy of the now deleted :( FIRST THREAD about these coins copied from the Collectors Universe Forum? All that is in their archive now is a second thread that leaves out lots of important info that is FAR more complete than 95% of the stuff still found on Google posted by all the "Johnny-come-lately's" who were not around in the 70's when these fakes were discovered.

The first "lost" thread outlined the discovery of these fakes and claims made by a member of the CU forum (TTTT) who wrote details about the mob connection and how they were reproduced.

I had a copy of that original thread and cannot find it in my files at work.

PS I'm not interested in any "fluff." Just a copy of the deleted CU thread. I'll be happy to pay for the copy and postage as it was a long thread.

I'm bumping this up for the nighttime posters purely for greedy :troll: reasons. Perhaps someone who can post at CU can make this request over there.

My boss bought one of these fakes today for almost 3K. Thought you guys who own one would like to know their current price. It's going into one of our C/F holders. Anyway, that's why I am seeking that original thread.

But did you check the wayback machine? A link to it was posted above. There's a good chance it is archived there.

Yes, I do Insider. But I can't give it to you.

I could....but then I'd have to kill you. :cigar:

    :D:D:D

Just kidding....let me look tonight, I think I have it copied in Word or a PDF. Not sure if it's the entire thread or just the Mafia/Bonanno connection.

"The Wayback Machine" is a real thing. There is an internet archive of cached pages just ripe for the picking. I use it regularly, and the primary URL is"

    https://archive.org/web/

You need to enter the original website address and know an approximate date which you wish to "recover."

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks...do they charge ?

But how could they POSSIBLY monitor stuff that is on the web -- and sometimes taken off -- and be snapping images at any given time or even every few hours or days ?

Storage needs must be Amazon/Google-like. o_O

Here you go, Insider. :cigar: 35 pages long....must be the entire thread up to November 2020 when I downloaded it. Glad to have been able to help.

Only reason I saved it was I thought it was interesting but didn't have enough time to read even the 1st post on Bonanno/Mafia. In fact, I STILL haven't read it...but thanks to you, my interest has been piqued and I will try and read the whole thing the next few days.

Important Lesson: If you see a thread or post that is really interesting or critical to your interests (on coins or anything) ....save it immediately. You never know when a post will be deleted or the entire thread or a site goes down or whatever.

Download it as a PDF or cut-and-paste into Word and save that. I do this all the time with a thread ATS on Roger Burdette's Saints book that is 50 pages long and has invaluable comments from Roger on Saint-Gaudens DEs and other historical tidbits.

No charge, but donations accepted and encouraged. It's kind of a Wiki-esque organization. They randomly crawl and archive sites. One might be able to submit sites for archive if their robots miss them. The records are not 100%, but checking alternate archive dates is usually fruitful.

THANKS! When you found this file did it contain a copy of the actual thread as the CU members' questions were answered by TTTT? As I recall, I printed the entire thread before it was deleted but I cannot find my Omega $20 file started in the 1970's when I was the rookie authenticator in that story back when there was a controversy between dealers and ANACS about the coins. Much of the history of that HR was posted long before TTTT claimed to know who made them.

Thanks again, your file is a great start.

Insider, the PDF I sent you I am not sure if I copied-and-pasted the thread into Word and then turned that into a PDF...or if I PDF'd the thread directly like I do now with the Burdette Saints Thread. You can tell when responses are taking places -- there are spaces between comments -- but the names/monikers are not showing.

Anyway, I have everything that was on that thread up to November 2020 as you can see but I don't have an "image copy" of the thread itself (and obviously, the link wouldn't work). I'll look to see if I have the raw pre-PDF copy of whatever I saved but I may only have that PDF. Sorry...:(

Did your boss knowingly buy that Omega for $3,000 ? The seller was up front about what it was ? I actually thought Omega's cost alot more than a 50% premium to the gold price but maybe it depends on condition and if graded/certified.

Insider, who's "TTTT" -- was he the original poster who put up the Bonanno/Mafia post ?

Yes. I found this on CT:

I contains a link to a 2016 discussion on Cu about these coins. At the time I posted in the thread I did not want anyone on CU to know I was the "rookie Authenticator" who first detected the coins. In that thread I was looking for my files so I guess they are lost. It had the original booklet with Walter Breen's findings at the Smithsonian. Anyway, as I posted, there is mostly a bunch of nonsense posted about these coins and their discovery on the Internet. The entire story was told in my "Insight on Coinage" newsletter. The ANA Library probably trashed the issues I sent them but Eric Newman probably has a copy in his portal. One day I'll need to search for it.

TTTT was To Tell The Truth on there and if I recall correctly was proven to be full of crap. Some other forum outed his real name and how he had identified the Zodiac killer by finding hidden messages in pixels on his computer screen or some nonsense like that.

He met w/Rick Snow who said some of his "stuff" was creditable. Besides the Zodiac Video, he apparently had a connection to law enforcement. He did have an interesting story that has not been proven or disproven. So just because someone is a "baby killer" does not mean they are not a top notch Professional Astronomer. ;)
