i have around 500$ worth of assorted twoonies and loonies, all are in great condition and rolled etc... i came across these last night, but is there anything worth looking for in these? the reason i ask is because if there is nothing special, i'd rather just go through and pick out the best conditioned coins and either cash/deposit the rest, just to get the material out of here. any help on any hidden treasure in the loonies and twoonies would be awesome, i've done a little looking around and there doesn't seem to be anything (outside of proof or error stuff) special to concentrate on, but i'm starting to like the people around here (helpful/knowledgeable) so i wanted to ask first.. thanks jared
These are not series that I collect, but I know for sure that the new Inukshuk loonie has been hard to find. Now one thing that I haven't heard talked about but I have noticed, is teh mintage on the 2000 toonie. The regular polar bear reverse with one Polar bear, not the momma and her cubs, but there were only 186,986 of them minted. I bought one right away on ebay, just in case Iw anted to start a set in the future, and I wanted it before the price went up. Sorry I can't be more help.
Well, lets see. You know there aren't any gold mine coins for those denominations that i can think of. I agree keep your eyes peeled for errors for starters. Especially off strikes of the twoonies. There are numerous commeratives and Olympic versions, so lots to search for. Loonie?- Keep your eyes open for 1997, 2001 Loonies. Non were ever issued individually so they would be somewhat of a unique find. On the obverse of the 1998 and 2000 keep your eyes peel for a W mint mark. Toonies? Nothing really stands out in my mind. In closing, lots of commeratives to watch for...if you target the best of everything, you will eventually find that high MS grades 64 and greater is where these coins start to demand a premium. My favorite twoonie? 2000 Knowledge, and the 1999, Nunavut. Loonie? Anything associated the the Canadian armed forces. Vimy ridge, etc. Hang tight before you start in the event someone else pipes in and has some other opinions.
thanks guys, i might start tonight anyhow, i gotta start atleast documenting this stuff. there are now anywhere from 100-200 silver dollars i gotta go through too.
haha, well this is what i've got thus far, the following are ones actually in holders with grading on them already: 1935 - VF / BU / AU / UNC x 2 1936 - VF / XF / UNC 1937 - XF / UNC 1938 - XF x 2 1939 - VF / XF / UNC 1946 - AU 1949 - XF / AU x 2 1950 - AU 1951 - XF 1952 - BU 1953 - SF - XF / NSF - VF / NSF - ALL 1954 - AU 1955 - AU 1957 - XF 1958 - PL / UNC 1959 - XF / UNC 1960 - VF 1961 - F / XF 1962 - F / VF / Ungraded 1963 - VF / XF 1964 - VF / BU 1965 - BU / AU x 2 1966 - BU / Ungraded x 2 1967 - BU / Ungraded 1971 - UNC 1982 - UNC 1985 - Ungraded x 5 then i found these loose thus far: 1953 / 1961 / 1965 / 1958 x 6 / 1967 x 3
i went through what i believe to be the rest of them, none of these were in holders or graded, all raw: 1968 x 12 1969 x 10 1970 x 1 1971 x 18 1972 x 6 1973 x 3 1975 x 5 1977 x 2 1979 x 1 1980 x 10 1982 x 20 (19 confederation / 1 regular) 1983 x 3 1984 x 7 (3 cartier / 4 regular) 1985 x 20 1986 x 16 now, from what i'm seeing there isn't anything special in here, but if i'm wrong, please let me know !!! haha
I think the 2nd batch of coins you listed could be made of nickel aka nickel dollars. Lots of varieties of those. The silver ones you 1st posted, sound great. Congrats.
