I can’t decide if this quarter was struck through grease or is a weak or test strike. If it was grease, then it was on both sides because there is no definition on Washington’s hair. Things that look like die cracks are all scratches.
I think the obverse lack of details to Washington's hair is just wear from circulation, while the reverse was struck through grease, a bunch of grease. JMHO.
If it were a test strike the eagle's breast, which is the highest element of the reverse, would not have any details in the center.
If any part of the rim is sharp and defined on this coin, then it had to have received a normal strike., so a "weak strike" is out. Therefore it has to be some kind of obstruction, which in this case is likely impacted grease. Nice find, and very dramatic. ~Joe Cronin
