It’s good plated. I’ve seen lots of coins gold and silver plated but a modern quarter? It’s only 17 years ago. I don’t ever recall seeing one this new. It’s shiny as can be, like it was plated yesterday but I’ve had it for a few years and just rediscovered it.

If it’s nickel plated it is slightly magnetic
If silver plated it would be tarnished by now
    Do you own a magnet?

When the State Quarter program started in 1998 the TV sheisters sold quarters that were plated with either gold or platinum. Innocent unknowledgeable viewers fell for this scam. They are worth 25 cents.

Yep, I got an entire set of gold-plated state quarters as one (unwanted) part of a big lot I bought on eBay years ago. In their "fine" wooden cabinet. I managed to find a buyer for it, but I would've spent them if I hadn't.

I also bought a roll of gold-plated NC state quarters ($16.00 shipped), with the idea that I'd distribute them to spark interest in the hobby. I haven't gotten around to it yet, though.

@-jeffB "Managed to find a buyer for it". Were you put into a witness protection program after the sale?

Can’t believe I wasn’t thinking about those platinum plated treasures. A lady came into the LCS while I was there this afternoon with several. I was on the far side of the room, keeping social distance.

About a year ago an elderly couple came into the flea market with a set of gold and platinum of those albatross'. The dealer took one of those "guns " to check the coins. Gold coins were "gold ",but the platinum coins showed no evidence.

I tried to correct it earlier but I was too late. I just hope everyone knows I meant gold plated.

I think they wanted it for the cabinet. I had to wave off one buyer who was looking to buy it for their "grandchild who's started collecting coins" -- "thanks for looking, but you'll make them a lot happier if you buy them something other than this".
