Thats a nice looking Buffalo there @Razz
The tail is a reference towards the strike, but just like the horn it is also one of the first points that shows wear.

The coin really does have an amazing strike.

You can see the difference in strike compared to mine in the word Liberty. Very strong letters in yours.

I would call it in the slider range.
Another soak in distilled water will help with some of the darker areas.
I haven't even had the time to identify the problems. Except that carbon spots are common on these and do affect the grade,
Another thing a few of the Tpg's don't like is the improperly mixed alloys, and copper spots.

That was a strike issue. It follows the same as the tail area of the coin. They changed the design to help with the metal flow.

Thanks, just went in for another soak. Some of the tight areas next to the rim, need extra attention.

@Pickin and Grinin Based upon your last photos, this coin is well-struck, with no major ticks, sufficient luster, only the lightest of flattening on the high points of the Obverse, so in my view a minimum of AU-58, maximum of MS-63.

Since I buy only in hand, and usually raw. AU coins are the majority of my collection.
AU's need a comeback. I buy nearly everyone that I find.

Not to change the subject, I am in the middle of some mint bags of cents, The marks I see on the high points look just like the bag marks I am finding on 60's and 70's Lincoln's.
    I don't mind calling it a slider.

For reference here is a long time stored 13 that I found in an old 2x2.

What grade would you give this one?

The coin has luster galore. But no doubt shows what looks like a weak strike.

Really nice surfaces on that on MrWease.

Agree with you both for the most part, although I have (and have seen) a couple with better E PLURIBUS UNUM...esp the PLURIBUS...not totally separated/clear, but if also not a prime focal point that matters as much as others (horn and tail, etc). Still, at least a 58 to me...nice.
