@pprp I agree it has been a tough year with prices where they are but you still managed to acquire some really nice coins.
The Sicilian tetradrachms stand out and they have some impressive provenances to match. Plate coins like these with 100+ year documented history will always be in short supply and high demand.

All five are outstanding! The two I like best are Syracuse tet and that fantastic and fantastical Mytilene drachm.

 

Congratulations on these great purchases. My favorite is also the tetredrachm of Athens and BTW I am very surprised to have missed this tetradrachm of Leontini

Regarding the market, P.F. Jacquier told me that a third of the coins of his last auction (especially the finest ones) went to China. Two collectors he had never heard of before.

 

It is very rare, it is well provenanced, I like archaic coins and the city means a lot to me.

 

I need to go through top 10s, I think I might have missed yours. Thanks a lot to @Curtisimo for updating the index file, it is very useful!

 

You were not the only one who missed it. The person who slabbed it and who a couple of months ago declared in CT -in the context of the Lottie collection- that he has a working knowledge of Weber, Jameson and Evans collections, missed it as well. None of the provenances I noted were on the slab. He also missed the provenance for another coin of the same dies which he slabbed and was sold by Stack's in August. I immediately recognized it as it was in the very same plate in the Naville IV sale as mine. Of course since I already had the Weber one and not being a greedy collector, I just passed on the Virzi one. At least a real collector managed to get it and I am very happy the coin escaped from the usual dealer flipping afterwards

Regarding the activity of Chinese bidders, I doubt I ever faced them, I almost always lost to female bidders who were actually acting as agents.

 

#1 is my favorite. #2 as well. Maybe its because i am sicilian LOL.

Yeah, it's in the index file. Don't stress too much about searching for it though. Agree @Curtisimo does a great job.

 

All of them are extraordinary coins. My favorites: #1, #2 and #5
