Never heard the phrase before, and looking it up only produced the listing where I found it originally. Any ideas? Pretty attractive toning anyway. "Restored from fire rage." https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toned-1924-peace-dollar-/165228775961
who knows, but I take it to mean it was in a fire and then cleaned up, so probably if sent for grading would come back "cleaned, questionable color", or just one of the two. most places want $30-$32 for a peace dollar cull/ungradeable. probably still worth it for around that.
John's probably right. See this previous coin of the seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1651680152...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 "...restored from the fire damaged lot..."
Thanks guys. I should have thought to look at his other items! Am guessing that he's experimenting with techniques, one of which may or may not have involved burning down his house. No pain, no gain though right?
This one's not bad. I see that his experiments meet with varied success. Despite the fact that the date of this coin makes the toning even less credible, I suppose it's a virtue that he hasn't here mangled a coin of any appreciable collector value. Then again: I opened a box of Kennedy halves which I've had for decades and was amazed to see that most are toned (though not technicolor toned). Even most of the copper clad ones. And all of these were and are encased in plastic holders. I'll post some pics in a while.
