I just got a new Spanish 5-Peseta coin for my 1-coin per country album. The 1898 5-Peseta coin is the size of a US silver dollar. It is now inserted in my album just after Southern Rhodesia and just before Sri Lanka. (Someday, I might need to make room for a coin from the Norwegian territory of Spritzbergen).

This 5 Peseta depicts the little boy King Alfonso XIII. Here is a previous CT thread describing the coins of Alfonso XIII. http://www.cointalk.com/t56579/#ixzz0eieplTpf

Alfonso’s full name is Alfonso León Fernando María Jaime Isidro Pascual Antonio de Borbón y Austria-Lorena. There are some earlier Spanish coins where Alfonso XIII is depicted as a baby and some later coins where he is depicted in various states of maturity. This kid’s father was the king of Spain. His father the king of Spain died before Alfonso XII was born. Therefore, little Alfonso XIII was proclaimed King of Spain when he was born. His mom was appointed regent during his early years and Alfonso XIII assumed control at the age of 16. His mother used coins as a means of introducing her son to the nation. He reigned as king of Spain from 1886 to 1931. Thanks to everyone that helped assemble this information on the Alfonso XIII series.

If you have other Alfonso XIII coins, please post them. Thanks for letting me share & good luck to everyone assembling a one coin per country collection.

    Very best regards,

That's a beauty. I read this thread because I recently started a 1 coin per country collection myself. I'm assuming your album is homemade? Or did a company make an album to accommodate 1 coin per country sets?

Here are some worn Alphonso XIII coins.

Apparently these types of coins known as "duros" were not minted after 1899
but were used as money into the 1920's.

Ernest Hemingway wrote about giving one to someone in The Sun Also Rises.

That is a really neat set! I believe that those are the only 5 Pesetas which depict Alfonso XIII. In 1905 Alfonzo was shown in a later state of maturity on the 2 Peseta coin. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Where does one find a list of countries? Seems they are changing on a daily basis. I would be interested in just seeing the list. I have several thousand dark side coins that I may have to go through.. : )

    Hello LTB,

I have my 1-coin-per-country set housed in two standard Dansco coin albums. These are the albums with plastic pages holding twelve 2x2 per page.

Here is a thread where this storage subject was discussed at CT:
    http://www.cointalk.com/t43465/

Like many world coin collectors, I have world coins arranged alphabetically by country stored in boxes. However, I prefer to view them in an album so I started the 1-coin-per-country album. From time to time, I will exchange one of the coins in the album for one I like from a box. This has been working well for me. Unfortunately, buying a slabbed coin really messes-up my system.

    Very best regards,

That is a great list. I kept it as a favorite for a while. Of course, countries and borders change over the years so the number of countries in your album is always expanding. I've only got space for a couple more coin entries in my two Dansco albums.

Today I found this 1888 "Duro" & added it to my collection. It is in an NGC holder but it kind of matches the condition of my 1898. Now I need to find the 1893 type in a similar AU. Your type set has inspired me :).
