OK, this coin was sold at London Coins auction about a week ago and is interesting (at least to me) as it appears to me a certain way from the photos - I know, no replacement for "in Hand" - but throwing it out there for viewer opinion or interest: tempImage21XZ8z.png tempImageojc6DU.png tempImagekjHjZg.png tempImageDzoU3K.png

And below it is a Proof PCGS66CAM:

The edge looks like the "squared-off" edge of a proof

I quite agree with that point. However the details in George's hair and some of the reverse detail such as on the lions' extremities and the unicorn horn spiral look not enough to be "proof".
I forgot to note that LCGS slabbed it as a proof 88 which is supposedly the equivalent of a PCGS 67/67+.

Really...don't think I agree with that.

It doesn't "pop" like a proof to me. It could just be LCA's crappy photos though.

Personally I don't trust anything about a company that both grades and auctions...

Yes, you are spot on with regards to that. I just don't like them. However, they had another inexpensive coin that I got and perhaps shall post. I was the "lucky" buyer of this coin, and lo and behold, as is often the case with them got it at my maximum (if token) bid of 75 pounds... Oh well, we shall see!

I will go ahead and pronounce judgement: this coin was misslabbed as a proof and is a currency strike, albeit decent preparation went into the planchet. The strike does not compare well, at least by photos, to the PCGS proof piece.

I'd agree with not a proof too - a nice coin for sure but not well-struck enough.

Those [four letter words]. They will not ship until 3 January even though paid for by credit card. What the h--l? I bought it. If it is nicely preserved it will be the top preserved currency....If.If. If....
I already have a nice proof and want a top currency as I like the 20th C. crowns - never will get the Edward VIII but think I have done alright.
