A coin that ticks several boxes

First I want to thank @Jay GT4 for alerting me when this coin popped up for sale.

Many of you know I collect coins of Domitian, and that I really like the denarii of Domitian's first year as Augustus.

Some of these are very rare and this one is no exception. I think this one might be the fifth one known. I deliberately try to find the rare ones so that is another box ticked.

I deliberately collect the "PONT" denarii. All of the PONT denarii are either very rare or extremely rare. Look at the obverse legend. I have several PONT denarii, but it has taken more than 2 years to acquire another. If you see one, grab it.

Lastly, I also avidly collect all of the Domitian denarii with the reverse you see below.Notice it is not one of the standard Minerva poses that Dominate the denarii of Domitian. This one is Minvera holding victory. I think there is a lot of charm in this reverse type.

great find, my first denarius from a coin show was a Domitian / Pegasus. It was worn, but had identifiable features, kinda like yours. I explained to the dealer that I was a newbie and he suggested an interesting coin. I had been reading books with Domitian, so I bought the coin. I do not have a picture of the coin.

 

I am not an avid collector of Domitian but this coin made me raise an eyebrow and I got it at a very decent price. Honest wear but an "uncommon" Minerva

I am always looking for the Minerva variants. The Minerva Victrix is one of my favorite coins of Domitian. Thanks for sharing it here.

Here is my one and only Domitian denarius. This is one of my recent purchases during my Roman Renaissance—which is what I am calling my 2021 effort to rebuild my Roman coin collection after selling off most of it in 2019.
