Hello my friends and Happy Holiday's! My Christmas present came a little early this year. Probably because I paid Santa to 3 day Air mail it Some of you will be pleased to know that I have met my goals in the Silver Bullion department, so I won't be tormenting you with posting World Silver coins as much With this out of the way I am now turning my attention to Pre 33 US gold , European Sovereigns and of course early American Coinage. Without further ado , here she is, my first Pre 33 US gold piece. It's a common date but, it's still a Saint! With a total mintage of just under 3 million It is estimated that only 10% or less of the remaining 1927 Saint Gaudens are in mint state. Not to shabby!
Super sweet and what a nice present! Congratulations on receiving this beautiful coin. May it be the first of many. Now I want one.
Thank you CN. I hear they are like Doritos, you can't have just one Once you break the ice there is No going back One leads to another ......
MS63 or AU condition ? Congrats on the coin !! If you want to read more about Saints, the Heritage Archives have great write-ups or you can read Bower's Red Book on Double Eagles or more details from Roger Burdette's Saint-Gaudens DE book.
First pre-'33 gold is a double eagle? Wow. I think for a lot of folks it's probably a gold dollar. For me, it was an 1857 $5, which I saved up for by working a summer job when I was 16.
Thanks Gold Finger. I actually have a copy and have just started reading it again. It's the book to have on Saints I hear
I've also been sampling some European Sovereigns. When you can acquire decent specimens for just over melt you gotta love them. *the 1915 20 Corona is a restrike
I have been waiting to start collecting Pre 33 gold for awhile now. So I wanted to go big, to start things off. Plus I know, if I started with the smaller denominations, it would be years (or never) before pulled the trigger on buying a Saint. I think I may obsessive compulsive or something lol
@Eric the Red congrats on fulfilling one wish. I hope the rest of your acquisitions are as jaw dropping. Beautiful DE.
