This is a coin I came across while sorting my pre and post 1982 cents. I know it's some type of error, but the knowledgeable could really give me some help with exactly what type of error it is. I've just started photographing Large cents and this is my initial attempt to photograph details on a Lincoln. Let me know what you think.
I don't see anything abnormal about this cent, could you I don't see anything abnormal about this cent, could you tell us what you think you are seeing that's an error?
I think he is taking about the LI in liberty. The LI are a lot weaker than the BERTY. I think the coin just had a weak strike and I don't see anything wrong with the date.
Look at the Mintmark, it almost looks like the one I posted a couple of days ago which was called plate-split doubling..right/wrong?
I see nothing to warrent further discussion - it is normal. I see nothing to warrent further discussion - it is normal.
I see the mintmark first and this is the strongest error. I'm at a loss to explain why it's not obvious, but it apparently isn't. Secondarily, I see minor ghost images from LIBE and UNI at 7:30 and on 1987 at 4:30. These are weak so I understand not seeing these. I had not noticed the weak LI until it was mentioned.
Do you get the enlarged image when you click on the images? I do on my own, but I don't on the images showing Abe's 92-d? This would explain a lot.
No, This was borrowed from LCR, but it didn't turn out correct. These are examples of Plate-split doubling...
Possibly you are looking at tear effect, due to thin copper plate. Probably zinc showing die strke tear/seperation points where you have indicated. MY HALF CENTS WORTH OF FREE ADVICE ozarktravler
I maybe wrong That just the a copper coated zinc center planchet looks when the layers are thinner than they should be and air pushes its way out, that what I been told
