In a Thread I started "Special Opportunity for Paper Money Collectors" there were a couple of remarks made that did not settle well with me at all. While I am sad to say that my personal relationship with Mr. Hessler has only been through electronic communication (e-mail) I feel it is an honor to have such a relationship with this truly outstanding person in which I hold in the highest regard. I hope in his and my lifetime, I have the opportunity to meet and shake the hand of this Numismatic Living Legend. Here is a link to a 2008 presentation for citing just the type of person he is. http://www.coinnews.net/2008/07/01/gene-hessler-to-receive-the-farran-zerbe-award-4225/ I thank him for his contributions to a field that I enjoy so very much and spend so much time researching. His work's have provided me with knowledge that without it, I would be lost researching America's Currency. Regards, RickieB
He is a great man and it would be an honor to meet him. These opportunities that he has made available for us have been great and I still kick myself for missing out on the Intl Engravers Line.
Well said Rick. He appears to be a generous and approachable man who has rubbed elbows with many famous musicians and numismatists in his life.
I am very grateful to have just these few degrees of separation from Mr. Hessler whom I can both experience and learn from in his written word and printed contribution to numismatics who without the existence of CT and the generosity and educational spirit of RickieB would not have entered my life and numismatic library. It would be an honor to meet both men and to personally thank them.
If you want to meet Mr. Hessler (whom I have met on more than one occasion, the first time was at CPMX a few years ago when he attended one of my presentations) or any other paper money luminary, go to a major show (FUN, CPMX, Memphis, ANA, St. Louis, Long Beach, etc.) and look for their name on the program. Go to the event and meet with the person afterward. If they are not on the program, ask a dealer if they have seen the person at the show. Have the person paged and introduce yourself.
Have him paged! Better yet, if you know he and Gene Hessler are at the same show, page them both so they can meet too!
