I might be making the long drive to Springfield on Thursday and was wondering if anyone else planned on attending. Maybe we could meet if I decide to go. Anyone going?
The launch ceremonies are usually pretty cool. It also gives you an opportunity to pick up a few rolls at face. Some then turn the rolls for a quick profit. Is it worth it? I dunno, but there are reasons to go other than the coins themselves. I took my kids out of school in 2001 for the Illinois quarter launch. It was a better field trip than they have had before or since.
Ok, last call!!! I am going tomorrow. If anyone else is, let me know and we'll meet up when we get there or some time during the day!
I was thinking about going. I hadn't really made up my mind. I often go down there on state business but I didn't have any meetings scheduled this week. Where are you comming from? North or South? Or East or West I suppose. I'm North.
Hey Mike, my stars seem to be aligning (in other words my wife said it was OK) just right for a day off and a trip to Springfield. One more hurdle and I'm there. Look for me when you get there. I'll probably get there about 9 AM. I'm 6'-3", about 260 pounds, sandy hair and glasses with a recently grown beard, probably wearing black leather jacket. I'm usually the tallest person in the room but not always. I'd be fun to see ya.
Look for me LOL I have also recently grown a beard and it's graying very nicely, thank you. You can look for me as well. I am about 5'10" and of medium build. I look something like this:
Guys, there is another thread currently about this, maybe you can all meet up: 2010 Cent Launch Ceremony Also, take some pics at the event and post them here on CT if you can. CT Member jwa_jwa_jwa had a great idea to take something along with him to get signed by Director Moy at the 2010 Sacagawea dedication ceremony in NYC last month. Consider bringing something and if you get a signature, post a pic too. 2010 Lincoln Shield Cent Release in Springfield, Illinois -CoinNews.net
Cool! Just a hello/handshake or did you ask any questions? hear anything interesting, prospective from the Mint from him? or from the Mint reps?
ok... here's my interaction: He was malking outside getting ready to leave and stopped to take a photo or two and sign a few things. I handed him my program which he gladly signed. My brother standing next to me handed me his program for the director to sign. I turn and asked him "One more?" and he quickly said "Nope!" and turned his back to me. I quickly herded my brother to the side where the Director stood where he gladly signed his program. I think Director Moy was trying to be friendly but not create eBay sales for people by signing stuff. All in all I would say he was enthusiastic and very nice.
