    How many filled dies or heavily abraded, polished, or lapped coins, do you find? Grease filled dies are one thing. Missing details is another. Some of us find die abrasion fascinating, I definitely do. The surfaces of a coin tell us quite a bit about how the coin will grade. When you are twirling that coin around looking for luster, and contact. You will find original surfaces that have lines going either one direction or even see them criss cross. This tells us that the striking press made a malfunction. It is usually that a coin didn't make it into the coining chamber and the dies clashed. If it was caught then they would remove the dies and use a diamond sanding disk to remove the opposite impression, or try. This leaves a die surface that shows raised lines, on the surfaces. A mint state characteristic. These lines actually lead into the dared avenue of authenticating a variety, which is not an Error. LOL
    Some are lapped to the point that they become PL, or even have a cameo appearance.
    I will start with a heavily lapped coin
    This one looks like it got that one time done right treatment.
    The surfaces are very flat and even.

    The weak details are even more amazing in hand.
    Liberty is even weaker than the hubbing on most 70'S small date cents.
    Amazing surfaces.
    These two are a die match, Missing UST. Kind old school, I found them in an old timers collection, He called the blobs behind the ear, IDB's. Called them pencil lines.
    Not really any die abrasion.

    If you look closely you might see the pillars around Liberty.

    @Pickin and Grinin
    I must admit, I don't know.
    I remembered at the last second that I didn't have a quarter squashed by this engine.
    But I'll pretend it was a "W" Bat coin:eek:
