I don't think these coins are that rare but to have one in this condition is. Rainbow peripheral toning and looks as struck to me. Waiting for it to arrive, having paid for it.

Cool coin. I have a pamphlet that Robert Nesmith wrote on the history of these.

I think all I have is a Lima sixpence.
I like the diagonally reeded edge.

I hope your pamphlet does not attribute the silver to Admiral Anson.

I'll post the first page - hopefully that is acceptable - just curious if the privateer bullion is what you are referring to. On the next page the writer opines that perhaps bullion from both sources was used. Yes, most of the 17 pages are about Anson and his "saga."

Thanks, I prefer the story of Captains James Talbot and John Morecock, as it clearly states that the silver was sent to the Tower mint and the capture of the two French treasure ships returning from Callao, the port of Lima is unquestionably linked to the 'LIMA' mark. Anson's exploits spanned half the world and were certainly legendary but not as clearly linked to the word 'LIMA', IMO.

Here's a similar retelling of both stories, perhaps drawn from the same source.

    And here's my LIMA crown:

That's a super nice grade for a Lima half crown. Typical hay marks, but a lovely strike and really good surfaces.

It was a close call deciding whether to keep this one or the crown, but the halfcrown was marginally better.

I prefer the obverse to the Crown and the reverse to the Half Crown.
