Ten buck pendant for (only) $11,500. And we complain about Etsy and bidiots on eBay. Shame it’s not just completely over priced, I think it’s ugly and gaudy. Not to mention a crime against the coin. I wonder how many people who see this when worn would even know what they are looking at. Get ‘em while there’re hot!
Good Lord! I know what the eagle is worth. I don't have a clue on the diamonds, but somehow I don't believe that .33 ct. of diamonds is worth 10k!
AFAIK, diamonds that size wholesale for much less than $10 each. Lately, they are putting these tiny INEXPENSIVE diamonds all over rings. The workmanship and labor jacks up the price of the piece and not the diamonds.
I'll give this piece the benefit of the doubt and assume that it required significant workmanship and labor; I'm not in the business. But I'll still bet that more than half of that price, if they get it, would be profit.
I agree, years ago such items were worn by the snooty ladies who could afford them, not so much anymore! Love my wife, but she's not getting it, not now and not ever!
My objection is that it's crappy jewelery. The large clasps overlap the date and devices, and although the placement of the diamonds is obviously meant to be assymetric, it just doesn't look properly artsy. The whole thing is clumsy.
I won't. I am betting $1000 for the coin, (hopefully less because it was already damaged), $500 for holder, $300 for necklace, $300 for diamonds and $400 labor. I would see $2500 cost in the thing. Set price at $11,500 and still be able to sell it at 50% off for a 100% profit.
Guys, that ad ran in the Wall Street Journal today. It's a high-end 5th Avenue jeweler. Probably next door to the Prada or Louis Vuitton store. These things are luxury goods sold to people who eschew price considerations. Anybody here going to be buying a $10,000 Rolex or a $250,000 Bentley? BTW, I was having breakfast at my little town's diner the other day and this guy and his lady park their convertible Bentley with the V16 engine right in front of me. I'll give him this - he knew how to parallel park. We see the occasional cheap Maserati but never a Bentley. That is truly a quarter-mil car. But I agree the jewelry is bugly.
Um, $10k is pretty cheap for a Rolex. Most decent ones are $20k or so. There are a few of us with a couple of proverbial nickels to run together, (since its a coin board I assume we all have 2 literal nickels to rub together).
Of course, as do the first nickels, the 1856-1863 small cents, (gotta love coin humor, .00001% of the population would get that joke).
Wow! This "Ten Buck Pendant" is very unattractive -- at least to my eyes. But the higher the price is, the more attractive it will be to someone, as some people will purchase it just because it's expensive. I was scanning the Heritage site today and they had a Hermes purse for sale today for $125,000. Buy that and this pendant is just chump change. I'm trying to figure out what it would be worn with.
