Selling Silver rolls – Best way?

I have many 90% silver rolls I am going to be selling in the next month or so. edited. All are either BU or Proof that I bought off reputable dealers, auctions and Ebay.

What would be the best way to sell them? While I have been an Ebay buyer for 20+ years, I have never sold anything there, and from what I have read recently the selling is more complicated now.

I know the other well-known auction sites don’t handle roll selling for the most part.

I am in the edited area, any reputable silver buyers in this area possibly, if that is a decent option also?

I would really like to turn the money into gold AGEs, but don't know if people/dealers like to trade or if that is doable.

    Thoughts?

Post them here in the B/S/T section, or join one of the many social media B/S/T groups and sell them there. You could try to sell them locally on Craigslist or social media, but please make sure you protect yourself during/after the transaction.

You'll get the price you want, you can pick/choose your buyer, the only fees you'll incur will be through your chosen payment method (and sometimes not even that) and you can sell them much quicker than waiting for an auction to complete.

You'll do the work, but you'll have control over the situation. You won't waste time/resources involving other people or companies who will require compensation for their involvement.

Trade is always a tough thing, because not only do you need to find someone who wants what you have, but they also have exactly what you want and are willing to part with it. This is why humans invented money, so that you only have to find someone who wants your stuff, convert into a medium of exchange, then trade that medium of exchange for what you want.

I would agree with @stldanceartist . I have bought quite a bit of stuff off B/S/T personally.

Agree - plus, IMO doing a trade more than doubles your risks involved with shipping services losing items…and takes longer.

I have swapped equal value bullion coins at a LCS. It went off without a hitch. Of course I was a long standing customer and not somebody walking in off the street.

Be careful of a trade at your LCS as most of them will be buying at below spot and selling at above spot so that you are paying twice for the same transaction. I agree with the above comments on selling here on the B/S/T forum and then taking the cash to the dealer to buy your AGE.

I appreciate the input from everyone! I'll be looking to list these in B/S/T in the near future. I'll also see if there are any reputable dealers in my area, but probably not much luck there.

I found that I got the best results by going to a local coin show, where there were a number of dealers buying. When they're competing directly in the same room, the offers tend to be stronger. At the last show (last month), I was able to sell some rolls of dimes, quarters and halves above spot. Most dealers pay cash.

You can get higher prices on eBay, but after fees and shipping, you're no further ahead, and often behind. And there's always the risk of a squirrelly or outright fraudulent buyer.

If you have a large volume of silver, you might do better selling directly to an online dealer like APMEX or JM Bullion. They typically have a minimum purchase amount of $1000 or so (actual value, not face value). They'll pay with a check or wire transfer, I think.

You will of course owe taxes on whatever profit you make. If you haven't kept careful records of what you paid for each item, that may be an argument in favor of cash transactions. ;)

Take photos, ask questions first, show photos. Serious buyers will understand and make arraignments for Show-n-Tell. Be careful, safe, and responsible. Evil lurks, especially at this time of year. Trust your intuition!

There and https://www.reddit.com/r/Coins4Sale/ - just remember to read the rules before posting, and as a new user they will ask you to use a middleman (or ship first, which I declined to do) until you earn enough positive feedback so people can trust you.

There's some shows in that area that get mentioned on different forums. One that comes to mind is Annandale which a quick search showed happens this weekend. You may not get the best price there but if you're close would be worth giving a shot. Other than that contact Great Collections or list on eBay

@Joel Turner - I've sold silver coin lots on this site and they are usually scooped up pretty quickly. That would be my first choice, then usacoinbook, although that site seems like it's mostly bargain hunters. Check the fee structure for selling on ebay, the fees are pretty high. As well as you have to relinquish lots of personal identity information to sell. I also bought many BU coins years ago from reputable dealers. Upon grading recently, many turned out to be AU rather than BU but I bet you have some real gems in there with good collector value. Good luck getting a good return on your investment. - Jim
