I've had coin world for years and just recently got COINage and really impressed with detailed articles. Especially happy that all Maurice Rosen, Q. David Bowers and Anthony Switek all mentioned what they thought to be hot markets for 2022 and beyond! A little biased that all three mentioned old commemitives 1892-1950 as I just finished a MS 10 coin set with (10,008) mintage 1915 s to 1936. Hope they're right? Only my second issue is this norm for Coinage? thanks
I let my Numismatic News expire for a while after they changed hands with another company. The pub. looked like it was doomed. I decided to re-up last year and they have gotten much better. The ads section though, leaves a lot to be desired. I also subscribe to Word Coin News.
I used to get Coin World but dropped it; too many articles that didn't interest me. I get COINage and the Rosen Numismatic Advisory. COINage has good, thoughtful articles, although it is not as big as I remember it from my younger days. Maurice Rosen does a superb job with his market analysis, and interviews many of the big names in numismatics for their opinions.
My subscription to COINAge started Sept. of 1972. Saved each and every magazine. Reread them within a week of receiving them. After 45+ years I donated them to the Newman Numismatic Portal. Still subscribe. Will be sending them the last 2 years worth as they pile up. Still have my 40+ year sub. to Coin World. After rereading I hand them out at coin shows. Won't discuss the Numismatic News.
As a newbee-ish collector, I devoured Coins, Coinage, Coin World, and some others. Now I just get Numismatic News, and kind of glance through it. After a few years, articles seem to be rather repetitive, and/or targeted at new/intermediate collectors. I find enough online to read.
I've switched back and fourth between Numismatic News and Coin World numerous times. Coin World always won. But no one, not even Coin World, will ever beat COINS magazine from the 70's when they had Carl Allenbaugh's Expertease and Walter Breen's Bristles and Barbs.
I know everyone has their favorites. Mine is the Numismatist. The quality articles and minimal advertisement are appealing to me. I also read World Coin News but it tends to be inconsistent. Part of the reason I support this one is that I don't think there is anything comparable on the market.
Coin World seems to cater more to high rollers, judging by the ads. Plus they've seemed to be shills for the Mint until very recently. That's one reason why I like COINS magazine much better. Besides that, I find the articles in COINS, which caters more to the average collector and pretty much concentrates on American coins, to be much more informative. One of our members here ( @Mike Thorne ) is a regular contributor, and I love his work along with R. W. Julian and Mark Benvenuto. I may decide to get its sister publication, Numismatic News, and drop Coin World.
I subscribe to The Numismatist (by way of ANA membership), Numismatic News and Coin World. All three have different qualities I find appealing. The Numismatist is more scholarly and the articles tend to be more historical in nature. They also run articles by more specialists I find interesting. Numismatic News is good for updates and trends on the current coin market as it's published more frequently than the other two, plus has an overall better price guide, with a comprehensive one every few issues. It also contains more ads I've actually bought from than the other two magazines. Coin world I enjoy for inspiration on issues I may not necessarily know about. And as an avid world coin collector it updates me on new issues. It also covers several collecting areas in each issue, classic and modern U.S. coins, world coins, ancients, and exonumia occasionally. Plus the articles are usually short and easily understood quick reads.
I bought the digital subscription back in early February when I will I start seeing it in my email ? Also curious how it works as a whole. I have contacted but they have not got back to me I’m curious
That I'm not sure of as I get the print issue. I know you can access back issues of the numismatist on money.org You have to create an ANA account. But I'm pretty sure I get an email near the end of the month saying the digital issue is ready. I'm not entirely sure I've gotten one this month though. I think it's just a link to the money.org archive, but don't quote me on that! But if you paid for that digital issue, you should be able to create your ANA account and go from there.
Seems like it’s only for the magazine Numismatists not Numismatic News I might get it at the end of month now In any case I have my order number and such account number
Oh, I thought you were talking about the numismatist. I get the print version of Numismatic News too, but I've never tried to access the digital version, but I think you can set up an account there with your email and account info but it's been so long since I've even visited the numismatic news website I really am unsure.
Yeah I typed in a key word I guess and automatically thoguht this post was referring to to numismatic news haha I’ve contacted them but no response yet
Only one I currently subscribe to is the Numismatist through the ANA. I used to subscribe to Numismatic News but canceled due to delivery issues.
I never used anything offered by an ANA subscription other than the magazine, but I found much of the articles uninteresting and esoteric. Numismatic News was plagued also with too much advertisements that I could care less about - so more than half of these mags it seemed were trash to me. Coin World I find the most tolerable, although the paper currency part was an afterthought worth leaving online or somewhere else
