sometimes. Back in 1999 I only ordered one U.S. silver proof set. I tucked it away and did not break it out for my albums. I then noticed it was going up, way up in price. I decided to sell it at $349.00. Nice profit for sure. Over the years I have watched it decline. The best price I saw this past year was $85.00. I was tempted but held off. Today I won at EBAY auction for $60.00 plus $3.49 shipping. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't but I'm a happy camper. This ever happen to any of you?
Nice score Tommy ....one never knows how prices will go .....but it does paying off for those that wait.
When the Silver Proof Sets came out, I ordered two of each. I had a favored client that I gave a 1999 set to as a gift. Why did I give the '99 and not one of the other dates?
As time goes on there's a lot of product to collect and only so many collectors able and/or willing to buy it. People always want to buy the next big thing. There's excitement for things that haven't happened yet and excitement seems to wain on things that are 22 years old or even one year old.
Congrats on the good timing (selling and buying)! The 1999 set is one of the more extreme US Mint price decrease examples, but it tends to be the case with many.
