Although this is nothing special, i can't figure out how they got the date stamped before the coin was minted. I mean, it's a 1975 cent, how is it stamped 1974, before it was minted, huh @SensibleSal66? Happy new year!
I have two NRA stamped nickels with slightly different designs. Look very carefully on the obverse of your examples. There may be a microscopic JBK stamp hidden among the design elements. This would be the initials of the counterstamper. You have to look very carefully as the initials are well hidden and very, very small. I also have a Kennedy Half stamped with a heart and $ sign. I don't know who made these. Bruce
It was stamped by someone outside of the mint and is probably an important date to him...birthday maybe or anniversary. It could have been stamped years after the coin was struck and circulated. Bruce
I don't recognize the AT. Felix Schlag designed the Jefferson Nickel so it's obviously not his initials. I've asked around but never found out who struck these. Bruce
I took a penny and laid it on one of the tracks to see what happened. It was flat as a pancake, as my mother would say. Now, when I showed it to my father, He told me that it could have derailed the train and killed all the passengers. He took the flattened coin from me, never to be seen again. I believed him because he was my father and I trusted him. I was 9 at the time and I never did it again.
This is a timely topic for me considering this Kennedy was just pulled from a box of halves today. The dates stamped above IGWT is obviously significant to a previous owner.
I've seen dozens of theses stamped Kennedys bit could never figure out what the dates referred to. Some examples I've seen are plated. Bruce
I've got a couple of new ones coming in. I'll get photos as soon as they arrive. That Peace Dollar is really special as well. Z
May’s Washing Powder On 1855 A France Dix Centimes Maybe May Stores St Louis c 1880 Originally Leadville CO
May's is an English company, Heavymetal. Henry May manufactured this product in London 1867-1907. Not a common stamp but not difficult to find one. Bruce
Ah overstruck coins! One of my favourites. I haven't updated my site for a while as I have purchased some unusual overstrikes. China isn't going to like this but this is an overstruck example to protest about Tienanmen square massacre. The rest of my overstruck coins can be seen here World coins (except Russia) http://gxseries.com/numis/overstrike/world_overstrike.htm Russian overstruck coins http://gxseries.com/numis/rus_imperial/overstrike/rus_overstruck.htm
