We are celebrating this festive event on Monday (6th. December) If you are good/ you receive chocolate treats/ gifts. My fav. chocolates from the time I was 5 years old where the brandy filled Asbach Urault.

We've celebrated St. Nickolas day in my family for 60+ years. Our ritual when my brother and I were kids was that we wrote the Christ child a brief letter with a list of a couple of items we would like for Christmas. After 6 PM , we set the the letter in freshly polished shoes and set them in the window. St. Nickolas, or at our house, Mikulas, would gather the letters and take them to the Christ child. Mikulas would leave some candy. Apparently there was confusion in the translation because I never requested socks and/or sweater.

You're lucky there wasn't a switch made of small bare tree branches bound with twine placed in your shoe, the traditional German symbol from St. Nikolas for exhibiting bad behavior.
