Apologies in advance for the quality of the pics. This 1968 S Jefferson Nickel was in my change a few days ago. I just got around looking at what I had and discovered it. To my surprise it even has steps. Any thoughts on what I've got are appreciated.
Hello and welcome back! I unfortunately don't see any full steps here. Next time click "Full Image" above the 3 files. That will show all Pics in full size. Thanks !
That was a tough year for full steps. The mint mark showed problems also for this year. The cents were not any better. These were circulation coins, so quality was not at the forefront, just quantity. The coin shortage from the previous 3 years, 1965-67, meant they had a lot of catching up to do, so the Mint just pounded out coins like crazy. Dies were used to the bitter end.
Nice find especially with the few steps, since it seems like your new some info about full steps. https://jeffersonnickel.org/full-steps-jefferson-nickels/
"With steps" Yep, it has two, but when we refer to a Jefferson nickel "with steps," we are talking about the designation given by the TPGers. Check their respective sites for their definitions.
@TheDescendent This is what a full steps coin looks like and proofs do not qualify for FS. I’m providing 2 coins with a full set of photos and both are graded. I’m also providing the steps of a raw one. I hope this visual helps you understand the steps.
The op coin is not even close to full steps. Maybe 2 intact. It is a well-circulated common date Jefferson Nickel. Full step Jeffersons are usually high grade, well struck uncirculated coins.
