While I prefer Peace dollars to Morgan dollars, let's face it, a big silver coin is nice to hold in one's hands. So, I decided to do a Morgan date album. While there are clearly less expensive 1878 mintmarks than the CC to find to represent the year, there is something about the CC mintmark to start off the set. This is just a fun set, and I have no specific grade/condition that I'm looking for. It's basically whatever Morgan for a given year caught my eye at a B&M or at a show. There are also a slug of Morgans that I will be including that IMO are not the greatest looking, but I inherited them from my paternal grandparents years ago, and for that reason they are special to me. The images are by Bob Campbell, and I think he did an excellent job.
Terrific look for lightly circulated silver. If I ever get around to building a Morgan date set, that's the appearance I want. Look forward to your future additions.
I like it. It looks like some of the luster is broke just judging from the way the toning set in. Good uniform eye-movement through it.
Those Pirates at 'Photobucket' have my 1878 cc held hostage (I refuse to pay their 'ransom' money). Looks a little more worn than 'Frets'.........
I understand that, but were you saying that yours is more worn than 'Frets'? In any case, it's fun to have an 1878 CC, and I hope you enjoy yours.
I have a ton of Morgans. Some unc and some badly worn, but that does not detur me. Keep the Faith. Find me a CC.
That's a nice-looking coin with attractive toning and I think it's a terrific idea to start off your Morgans with the 78 CC. You're likely gonna want a CC at some point anyway so why not start with the first? Along with my 7070 I've been fiddling with my also long neglected Morgan date set for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, I suffer from "mission creep" with this kind of project and now I find that the set is within a dozen coins to completion for a complete 1878 to 1935 date and mintmark set including all of the most popular 1878-1880 varieties. This was not meant to be my "life's work" and many of the better dates are in grades similar to your 78, and several are a bit lower. I'm pleased with them nonetheless and see no need to upgrade more than handful, perhaps 7 or 8. What fun!
