Disorganized or old or both?

We’ve all come across coins that we didn’t remember buying. We’ve all also found lost coins we knew we had.

I’m pretty confident I’m missing (misplaced not stolen) a box of coins but not only do I not know where they are, I don’t know what they are. It’s just a nagging thing.

    Am I alone in this?

I had a Whitman folder, Vol. I, of Washington quarters that has been missing for the last 30 years. I pulled the entire consist from pocket change. I still search, but to no avail. Very frustrating indeed.

You are not alone in this at all.

I often think to myself, "man, if I'm this bad in my mid-fifties, think how I'm gonna be in my seventies or eighties!" (If I live that long.)

    Alone? That's very funny ;)

Mine is embarrassing on a couple of levels. First is the fact that I lost an entire display and series of silver. I don't even remember exactly what it was that I lost, other than where it was from. And that leads me to the second part of the embarrassing act. The series was from the Franklin Mint. I was young and stupid. So sue me :)

The thing is, they were I believe a presidential medal series. All over 1 troy oz, actual weight was 1 troy oz of silver. So the fact that there was zero numismatic value isn't important. There were I believe 35 medals (I could be wrong on that count). That means 35 ozs of silver, albeit melt value, is gone missing. I bought the series, one per month, back in the mid 80's. So melt today would be $800+.

My wife and I moved 5 times in our first 7 years of marriage. So those medals could be anywhere. I don't even recall the last time I saw them, let alone when they went missing.

So all you folks that fess up to losing a coin or two or three, HA! I went for the full Monty and misplaced 35 medals/ozs!!! Talk about a dim bulb, 51 cards short of a full deck, the lights are on but nobody's home. You name it. That's me.

    Carry on......

Arrows and rays..... Early last year I wanted... No, I needed an arrows and rays seated half. Our own inimitable @lordmarcovan ground guided me to a fine specimen that I promptly secured...... Shortly thereafter one mysteriously showed up in my safe. Then only a few days later one showed up in my cabinet at work..... I have absolutely zero recollection of ever purchasing the other two.

I am organized pretty well and never have misplaced a coin. I've always had a good memory, even now.

    What are we discussing, again?
Oh, now I remember. I can't find my Santa Claus socks. They were in a specially marked shoe box, I think.
    I know she took them...

I had a whole jar of world coins from roll hunting that I set about putting into 2x2s and album pages in a binder. from the 2000s til now. I finished with them and about a week later found another jar in the back of the closet with an even earlier stash of world coins I'd found roll hunting from the 1990s until then. I misplaced it and forgot about it completely and started a new jar.

Nothing valuable I don't think, but some interesting coins from around the world. A couple I'm likely going to have to put on here in order to identify, they all look like the lettering is cryillic or something like that, but that's for a later day, I'm still trying to catalog the hundreds of coins, and I should probably buy Canada albums to lighten that load in the binder. LOL

Oh and a year ago my dogs ball she plays with in the house disappeared. I looked everywhere many times, just totally gone. took me weeks to find an exact replacement for her favorite (only the color was wrong). to this day it hasn't turned up, just GONE. but it's in the house somewhere,,,,, or she ate it??? who knows. LOL, it's got to be there somewhere, I didn't throw it away, I don't think she could eat it either at least not easily the new ball is fine still.

Not just you. I recently found an ancient I had missing for six months in a box of books. Still have no clue how it ended up there.

Never touch the stuff but the only coins I forgot are in all those boxes. I’m just now getting to them and I have 2 or 3 of the same coin. Sure glad to be retired and not working and slaving my away.

This has happened to me but with car parts I've stashed in closets years ago and only inventoried boxes recently. Lots of stuff I've come across for my car that I didn't remember purchasing/having a spare of.

Back when I was into hoarding more than collecting, I more than once bought coins that I already owned. Once I didn't realize it for over a month.

Once I was culling my collection and looking through everything, found a barber dime that I forgot I had. I remember it specifically because it was upside-down in the flip. I think I have a picture of it. 1901 Barber Dime Obv Cropped.jpg 1901 Barber Dime Rev Cropped.jpg

I can do better - opening a lock box about a year ago I found a GSA 1882 CC Morgan I have no idea how or when I bought it. Nice to find something that you didn't know you had.

I have misplaced coins and albums/folders but ended up finding them. As I have crossed the 15,000 coin mark I'm at the point where I can't remember what coins I've got.
