I have some autographs, toys, & action figures in mine. They are very common in the collectable world. I see so many on instagram it isn't funny. But I admit this is the first I am seeing it done with coins as you have them laid out. Very nice. But here in California, it isn't practical. A recent earthquake here knocked over many toys and such in my display. I couldn't fathom coins coming tumbling down and getting scratched or dinged.
Beautiful display! I see a lot of familiar faces in there For some reason I had always thought you had a considerably larger collection, especially of Indian coins and LRBs? Sure beats the heck out of my very incognito bookcase
Can’t find them here for 60.00. Was that a used price? Seem to be around 250.00…But that’s Nebraska, land of Corn, Cows and CowPies
Looks like Khusro II, its late Sasanian. The Sasanids ruled Persia from about 230 to 650 or so. They were the great enemy of Rome during this timeframe. They even captured a Roman emperor and then stuffed him when he died.
Yeah, I worry about that too. I worry if some friend of my sons saw them, let others know, etc. I keep some ancients around the house for a while but in boxes until I take them to the SDB, but also have a large safe to put them in. Maybe when the kids are out of the house I might feel more comfortable with something like this, but could only display 1% of my ancients at a time in one of these.
What an amazing display, @Spaniard! It makes me want to buy a cabinet like that. I use those little acrylic stands in various sizes, both to hold small antiquities that didn't come with their own bases, and to display some of my remaining collection of historical and art medals. As in the glass case to the right of this photo:
Sassanian drachms of (left to right) 1) Hormizd IV? 2) Khusro I 3) Balkash? (This is a VERY scarce coin!) 4) Khusro II 5) Peroz I 6) Hemidrachm of Tabaristan, a Sassanian rump state under nominal Abbasid Arab authority
Maybe I should get one of those, looks small enough to fit in my room and I have so many legos to display I won't know what to do with them pretty soon.
@Spaniard, how long did it take you to assemble your cabinet? I figure I could probably do it in double the amount of time you took, although that might be pushing it for me.
@Spaniard - That looks super Paul! I love the idea of have a little museum display in your office. @DonnaML - I also love your display. That's exactly what I need for my office - a couple of desktop cases.
I would really like to have one of the cases for my office. One problem is that I have a curious cat that lives in my office. I have a library of books and movies. Each morning, I go to my office, which is in a separate building from our home and I find books and movies all over the place. If I put a glass cabinet, she would destroy it. It's hard to determine if I love my coins or my cat better. Thanks for showing us your cabinet. Maybe some day .....
Great Display! Thanks for sharing. Question: Can you add additional shelving? Also, not sure where you live. But, do you have to be concerned abut humidity?
I think I have the same medal as you have in row 3 1st medal ??? FRANCE-1927-ELECTRICITY- Bonze art deco Medal by P.M. DAMMANN
Does look great but I would also be afraid to have them out like that. Keep mine in a safe and show them online.
