Hi, fine folks of Coin Talk. I have a question on here and hopefully someone can answer. I received this dime after getting change back from a thrift store about 1 week ago. I haven't seen a dime like this before (Reverse seems normal, Front has various errors, it's thinner and lighter than a normal dime). Tried looking up various Roosevelt dime errors and could not find any errors like the coin I have. I am not a coin expert and don't know if this is a true mint error or if it's rare. Has anyone out there seen a dime like this? Thank you all so much in advance.
It's not an error. It's been altered: ground down and otherwise tooled. Almost looks as though someone affixed it to the bottom of a chair leg or something.
Thank you for all your replies. I was hoping it was rare coin error, but alas it is not (never knew how common "ground down" coins are). I will take the advice from furryfrog02 and spend it.
Most members have the same start up,think they have hit the million dollar coin for retirement but then to be disappointed.Millions of coins end up like this all the time and for new people it can get confusing.
Well, “odd” is at least an accurate way of describing it. It’s most definitely not any kind of mint error, but it is indeed odd looking.
