Hello to the dark side. My friend Ole, who is a metal detectorist recently found this in a park in Great Barrington, Ma. I'm sorry but these are the only photos he has posted that I could grab for this post. He tested it with a gold test kit and says it comes up between 14 & 18 Karat gold. No clue as to what it might be at this point. If he posts better photos I will, of course, share them. Any help would be appreciated. The Berkshires, here in Mass. has a storied history of all sorts going way back to the early part of our country so anything is possible. Hessian soldiers In Lanesboro, The Mohican Indians, George Washington staying in New Marlborough and even a counterfeiter in Great Barrington who was hanged in the 1700's. My guess is it's a homemade gold coin from years ago from another country other than the US! Looks like a guy flipping the universal finger but I'm sure it's really a tree or something else!
With the way the high points are darker, I suspect that this medallion/pendant may be plated with gold and not solid. Gold usually does not tarnish like this. I have to assume the part at the top is a suspension loop. the bottom looks as if it may also have had a loop attached since removed suggesting that maybe it was part of a bracelet especially since the back is blank. My guess is a fantasy piece for a bracelet.

He has not gotten back to me yet on the size. He's been sick and went back to work today. I'll see if he remembers to weigh and caliper it.

Hmmm, I can only recall one diner in G.B. It was Broverman's Diner on Stockbridge Rd. in G.B. but has been gone for more than 40 years. My Mom worked there for a short while before I was born in 1954. For the life of me I can't remember another.

Well, GB and Stockbridge border each other. But now I know where you mean. Main St. is short with their shops and there are shops out back of the ones facing Main St. I've never been to too many of these, way too over priced and more for the rich folks, even when I was much younger. I did buy a purse for my Mom back in the 80's at a leather shop there abouts but only because it was 50% off. And that's where the actual diner was-out back. I'm not even sure if it was called Alice's except by Arlo.
it was called "the black room" now it is called "therea's stockbridge cafe" all these yeasrs and i thought it was the right one, lol
