Observing some other threads, I think I should start using the term "cents" rather than pennies. Either way, a box is 50 rolls ($25). I say box because the bank I go to gives them in a box with a tape seal on top as opposed to loose rolls. It normally makes their life easier unless they have to get THE MANAGER.

Thanks! Thats funny about THE MANAGER- they usually understand. Its usually the new tellers that have problems. I had a teller tell me once, "you can't have ten dollars worth of cents. I don't have that many to give you, I'd have to open the vault." After politely explaining that all she has to do is get the manager and/or a second person to accompany her into the vault, she can get all the coins needed.

I think I saw someone on ebay selling a roll of them the other day. I may be mistaken.

I always try every weekend to buy 3-4 rolls of quarters. Afew weeks ago I got some rolls from a local gas station. They were hand rolled and i really wanted bank rolls but I took them anyway. Well the first roll I opened had 19 pre 1965 quarters in it and I new it had silver in it when i poured them into my hand. I was amazed b/c normally i might get 1 out of 10-15 rolls. The rest of the rolls had nothing in them, but it does go to show its worth buying and checking rolls from time to time. I figure the rolls w/ the silver must have been from some kid raiding his dads or grandads quarter jar. Thats the only way I can figure that many 90% quarters were in there.

Thanks for this post its fun to hear of peoples luck!!

You got silver quarters? Wow. I didn't think much silver was found in quarter rolls. Anyone else find silver quarters. That is one denomination that I never get because I thought they were too picked over because they are circulated so much. Anyone else?

    This week

Searched 7 boxes of halves this week. Found 1 2006P and exactly 1 40% silver from 1968. I picked up one customer roll from one of the tellers that saves them for me and it had 6 40%ers in it.

So in boxes 1 silver out of 7000 coins.
In rolls 6 silver in 20 coins.

Do you think we have several "box" searchers in our area or what? lol

Couldn't find a box today, but found $55 in loose halves and found the following:
    1 65
    3 67
    1 68
    1 69
1 70 :D These are hard to find and actually worth more than the 90%ers! :D

I go through maybe 10 bucks per week in pennies and I'll go through the occasional nickel roll as well....nothing spectacular yet in my 8 months of coin collecting, but a few really nice early 1900's cents.

I have been able to go thru $300 - 500 worth of quarters from the laundry at times before and never found any silver.

    One other note

One of the boxes I got this week had 960 UNC 2000P halves and 40 random ones mixed in. First time to find anything like that in searching 92 boxes so far.
